With the door situation settled, we made our way back up to the cave we had been nervous to enter through earlier. It no longer seemed threatening now that we knew what lay beyond it. The knife strapped to my ankle had been all but forgotten.
“I can’t wait to show the girls. They are going to romanticize the hell out of this,” Daniel laughed as we emerged back into the light of day.
The sudden brightness had the three of us squinting our eyes.
“Jesus H. Christ,” Daniel muttered as he rubbed his eyes.
“Well that is going to take some getting used to,” Jace spoke from beside me. His blue eyes narrowed into slits.
I nodded in agreement. My already sensitive eyes ached from the adjustment. The black circular energy seemed even more abundant with the shift in my pupils. I blinked furiously to ease the bombardment.
When we made it back to the now gathered group, Daniel immediately launched into how much potential the caves had. Jace hugged DeAndre before explaining the caves as ethereal and massive. While I set off to my truck a few feet away and removed cleaning supplies from the trailer. The caves would need to be cleaned to the best of our ability so we didn’t risk catching anything, especially with Andrea and Evelyn about. The best way to do that was with a twenty liter bottle of industrial strength bleach. We would need to water it down a smidge, but after that it would be the perfect cleaning agent. I grabbed two unopened jugs of water to mix with the bleach along with six mops, brooms, and a stack of buckets. It was time to get to work. I left the bleach and water on the side of the trailer and hauled the lighter items over to where the group sat talking animatedly. When I dropped them on the ground with a loud clanking the chatty group quieted.
“You may have a pretty good description of the caves thanks to Daniel and Jace’s description,” I smiled at them both and they nodded in turn, “However as magical as the caves sound, they do need a thorough cleaning.”
“Just what else do you have in that trailer, Sienna?” Jessie grinned as she lifted a brow.
The adults present chuckled at the question and I rolled my eyes.
“That does not matter right now. We need to get this place cleaned if we have any hope of living here before sundown. If we can’t, then the possibility of sleeping in our cars is on the table,” I pursed my lips.
This seemed to grab the group's attention.
“I’m glad to see you guys a little bit more serious. Now I need the tall people; that’s Dante, DeAndre, Jace and Daniel to clean the ceilings of each cavern at the front. One group will use the mops and bleach to wash, and the other group will go behind them with towel-covered brooms to dry,” I made eye contact with the individuals whose names I called, and received a nod from each before I continued, “Jessie and Rachel I am putting you on wall duty. Clean as high and low as you can.”
They both nodded their understanding.
“Taylor, I need you to keep the girls busy out here and could you possibly make an early lunch for everyone?” I asked.
“Yes ma'am,” Taylor grinned.
“Perfect. And I will go in and mop the floors of the caves once you guys have completed your task,” I finished.
“That seems like a big job for one person to do alone. The floors are the dirtiest parts of the cave,” Daniel frowned.
He was right, although I didn’t mind doing it on my own.
“True. So if any of you finish your own tasks and feel that you have the energy to keep going, I don’t at all mind you grabbing up a mop and assisting me,” I amended.
