Hours has passed.
The sun probably already shown up outside while he was busy telling his new partner about the case and what had happened so far. As expected from one of war heroes, Ginny's reaction was actually pretty collected and calm. It's like she's been absorbing all the information laid to her whole-heartedly, which is both great and concerning.
Great, because it would means that she accepting the case with her heart and, concerning because it could motivate her to be taken out from the case. If he had to be honest, the whole ordeal was pretty fucked up because obviously, the perp is seems to be one step ahead of them and they're getting nowhere till now.
"So," Ginny finally spoke. Alex shifted on his chair with his elbow propped on the table between them and his fingers joint together. "Did you already know that Vanessa might be attack before the incident or you were just coincidentally was there?"
Alex looked away for a moment before answering, "Well, I actually have a list of names that I think match the description of the killer's likeness--? that's, that's a weird word but, I didn't get enough sleep, hope you'll forgive me for this," Alex sighs, and taking out his book from his bag. He paused a moment when he finally realized his bag is now thick-red, covered with Vanessa's blood.
Ginny just shot him a small smile, "Yeah, I get it. I mean, how can you even sleep while knowing a loony killer is walking among us?"
Ginerva's voice brought him back from his trance, and a weak smile curved on his lips. He try not to get distracted by Vanessa's current well-being because he know, and he wanted to believe that she's in a good hands now. "True, true..." said he, "And back to your question, I don't exactly know it would be Vanessa, but I do have suspicion that she's somewhat match the possible victim 's description," he adds, opening a specific page from his notes, which has names of all the seven witches.
"Now that she was attacked, I guessed it safe to say I'm guessing right."
Ginny trails her fingers on the names one by one, "I knew all of them-- And, Mione's name is here too?"
Alex nods, "She matches the description."
Ginny stares at her best friend's name before asking, "What's the description?"
The veela leans on his chair, recalling the information in his brain, "Beauty with brains, muggle-born, 5'5-5'6 heights, brunettes, kind--all in all, just perfection, or,"
"Imperfection, if in the eyes of DE's."
Alex smirks. He once thought that too. "It would be much easier if this all the DE's doing," he said.
"Why?"
"I mean, the DE doesn't really care about whether the victims are pretty or brilliant, just as long as they're not purebloods--"
"Hmmmm, that's true... So, do you like, have any ideas what this could be?"
Alex shook his head. "It could be anything at this point. I still have a few things to work on with; people to see, names to find, runes to be decipher, etcetera etcetera,"
"You're doing, a lot."
"Yeah,..."
"So, that's where I came in?"
"Honestly.... I have another person in mind, before you."
Ginny couldn't help but to be a little surprised, "Who?"
"Zabini."
"I thought you don't know him."
Alex shrugged, "Initially, yes. I only know him by the name, I never even met the guy. The only thing I knew about him is that he's related to a friend of mine."
Ginny scoffs, "And you decided to trust him to work with you with just that?"
Alex could help but to chuckle at that, "No, no. I- actually had a conversation with him, a short one but I think is enough to make me trust him, I guess."
"What was the conversation about? If-- I may ask.."
Alex crossed his arm over his chest and leans back as he thought a moment. He decides that if he wanted to gain trust from Ginny, he might just be as open as he can with her, "It's nothing much, it was-- I think, I was asking him about a particular witch, lower year than us, and he instantly offer to help... But I think, also maybe because I trust my friend judgement about him."
Ginny seems to be thinking about something.
"I don't know what kind of history you and Zabini had back then, but just a heads up, I still going to ask him to help me out on this case."
"Why?"
Alex inhales, "For an obvious reason, he's from a different House and there may not be a potential victim, but a potential suspect might be," he explains.
Ginny nodded understandably.
"And second reason is, he seems to be very familiar with the witches, mainly- and he could be a huge help in getting information from them without being suspected, since-- well, he's a charmer and I'm not a great conversationalist."
"I think you're okay,"
"Thanks, I tried." Alex grinned. "But anyway, I think he'll be a great addition to the team."
"What about me? Why me?"
Alex contemplated with his thoughts for a moment.
"Well?"
"Hmm, I have to be very honest with you," Alex scratched his head, "I never thought of getting you involves in this case,"
Ginny remained quiet.
"I er-- you being at the crime scene was the last thing that I would ever imagine, but I guess, I was just glad that it was you, and not, other students, y'know-- because, because I don't know if they would," Alex scoffs dismissively, "I don't think they would still be sitting here with me, once they heard the details of the case."
Seeing the witch didn't say anything, the veela sighs, "I guess, my reason came to me afterwards; which is, you're a sportswomen."
Ginny furrowed her brows, "And what is that has to do with everything?"
Alex smiles. He was just glad that she finally talks again. He didn't even realized that her being so quiet did make him slightly nervous. "Erm, how should I put this." Alex said, more to himself actually but his voice was loud enough for Ginny to hear them.
"To be great at Quidditch, the player has to have a good stamina to beat the bludgers and fast thinking skills to be a great keeper, great observation skills in order to catch the golden snitch and for obvious reason, a team-leader does possessed a bit of every skills in them to make a great team."
"What about chasers?"
"A five stars at flying and aiming skills?" Alex answered with the first thing appear in his head.
Ginny crossed her arms over her chest, looking slightly amused at the wizard in front of him, "Now I'm curious of why aren't you interested in joining Quidditch. You basically know a lot about it,"
Alex shake his head, and brush his fingers through his messy hair, "Yeah, well. Quidditch is a dangerous sport, and I don't really fancy gettin' hurt by a bludger or the quaffle, or just fell off a broom and getting my limbs broken."
"And by chasing a serial murderer isn't dangerous?" Ginny finally grins for the first time in the entire time they were in the room.
Alex feel at ease, grinning. "At least it doesn't involves flying?"
And they both laughs.
