Shoko grins at me as she watches the katana slice through the air.
"I think it likes you." She says.
"You keep referring to it as if it's sentient." I reply, manoeuvring the blade through the air effortlessly.
"I don't know if sentient is the right word... But it doesn't act like this for people it doesn't like. Try summoning it from the ground."
I sheath the sword and hand it to her as she places it back on the wall. I put my hand to the ground of the room, and follow Shoko's instructions on the elaborate hand signs I have to complete.
"I mean... It's not here." I say, gesturing to the empty ground in front of me. I look back to the wall and see that the sword is gone, and instantly look down to my hand which is now wielding the blade. "Wow, so it does actually work." I say, standing back up from my crouched position.
"First try too... you know what, I forgot you were a good sorcerer." Shoko says.
"Hasn't everyone!" I reply, throwing my hands up in dismay.
I continue to train with the katana for a few more hours before having a lunch with Shoko that she very kindly made for the both of us. She then takes me outside for more training, and we stop under a large tree.
"This, is where you really progress." She says, gesturing to the branches above her. I look up confused at what appears to be a normal tree, and Shoko rolls her eyes. She points to the leaves on the ground and then it clicks. The sword is supposed to home in on organic matter, meaning it should be able to hit the falling leaves with ease. I unsheathe the blade and wait for the next leaf to fall.
When it eventually does, I feel the katana pull slightly towards it, not a huge amount, but 100% enough to provide increased accuracy. As I move the blade closer and closer to the leaf, the pull gets stronger, until the force is so powerful that I slice the leaf in two, almost too quick for Shoko to see. "The pull works like the opposite of Satoru's infinity. The closer the blade gets to the leaf, the more it will be attracted."
I nod in response and inspect the slightly blue tinged edge that the blade has. We continue to practice everything from summoning to fighting and eventually call it a day as the sun begins to set. We treck back towards Shoko's house, finally reaching it after the long walk across her expanse of a front garden. Once inside, we order takeaway pizza and after we finish eating, head off to bed.
The days continue much the same. Filled with gruelling training from Shoko combined with endurance testing for my cursed technique and after a week or so, we hear an unexpected knock at the door. I'm the one to open it, revealing Satoru standing there. It's the first time I've seen him in over a week and I can't believe I look like this (a post workout and training hot mess).
He's wearing his blindfold and Jujutsu tech uniform, so I'm guessing he's come straight from work. He begins to make his way into Shoko's house and as he walks past me, slaps my ass and I let out a yelp in surprise. My exclamation catches Shoko's attention, causing her to peer round from the living room to look at who it was at the door. Satoru gives her a wave as if nothing happened and I slap his shoulder in reprimand.
"Why are you here?" I ask him, not in an offensive way, but in a curious way.
"Can't a man just come to see his favourite person?" he asks before scooping me up into his arms bridal style, causing Shoko to make fake vomiting noises in response.
"Ew I've just been working out, I don't think you want to be doing this..." I say cringing.
"All the better..." He responds, grinning down at me.
