(COVER CHANGE!!<3)
A faint, steady heartbeat echoed in the hallways, but overall everything was silent. Donatello pushed himself against the walls in the shadows, exhaling quietly, calming his breath and hiding his heartbeat. Donatello assumed the audible heartbeat was Mike's, since he's the only one of the turtle brothers who still didn't know how to hide his heartbeat. Even April learned how to, though every now and then she forgets to actually hide hers on missions. Donatello didn't know if his brothers were here or not right now, who was and wasn't. Not for certain, at least.
Donatello looked around the hallway and scooted closer to the doorway slowly, his breathing faint, quiet, and calm. He pushed the side of his head against the wall, and listened. Focusing his hearing.
There was no heartbeat from within the room, and the only audible sound that actually came out of the room, was the soothing sound of the wind from an open window on the ceiling of the peculiar, supposedly abandoned warehouse.
Donatello slowly creeped inside, remaining in the shadows. His footsteps silent. Donatello held his breath, and glared at everything around him. Nothing out of the ordinary, but something had to be wrong here. Or else his scans wouldn't have been accurate. He fixed them recently. But something caught his eye beside him, and when he turned to inspect it, holding up a defensive stance with his bō staff, wide eyes and everything, something jabbed itself into his neck, and he was pushed forward. He groaned and reached for his neck, looking back for a second of blurry vision before it refocused. Rocksteady, stood there. With a syringe in his hand. An empty syringe.
"What did you.. What did you put in my neck?" Donatello asked, his breathing audible, and his heartbeat echoing in his head. Whatever it was, poison, liquid, or device, whatever, it made him feel weak. Powerless, perhaps. But vulnerable. Vulnerable was a new one, he rarely felt that. When he was vulnerable, he was open. He was truthful.
"You are smart one, да?" Rocksteady asked, raising an eyebrow as he stared at the turtle. He stepped forward, examining the turtle for other possible weapons. "Then figure out, you."
Bebop ran into the room, smiling. "I found the orange one! He's all set."
"Oh-ho-ho! Good works, Xever."
"Thanks bro, wrapped him up all neat in ribbon and everything yo! Shreds gonna love us!"
"Mm. Indeed!"Rocksteady turned to face the purple turtle again, and leaned close. Donatello began to feel anxious, holding onto his staff tightly as he backed up against the wall.
"Where is turtles?" He asked, smile widening, as he grabbed Donatello's shoulder tightly. It hurt.
"I don't know!" Donnie yelped, wincing. Why was he acting so fragile?? His entire body couldn't help but shake. This was so.. Weird. And it felt painful.
"Lies!" Bebop yelled, running over to inspect the turtle. "Ivan, he tells lies!"
"Impossible. Baxter said the Sodium.. Thee.. Oh.. Potential, shits.. Would work. He tested!"
"Sodium.. Thee-oh-potential..? What??" Donatello stared at Rocksteady in utter confusion.
"Nah, nah, nah. I believe it was pronounced.. Sodium, Thy-pen-tall." Bebop corrected, waving his hands around as he spoke.
"Sodium Thiopental?!" Donatello yelled, suddenly more panicked. "You drugged me?!!"
"That!! I knew I was close!" Bebop yelled, laughing.
"I was closer." Rocksteady bragged, turning to stare at Bebop. A smirk rising on his face. The two kept rambling on, and Donatello took the time to slow down his breathing and steady his heartbeat. He needed to stay calm, and think. They used a drug on him. It's supposed to make him truthful now, right? Shit. But they said Baxter tampered with it, by the rats of New York. Who would ever know what he did with it? He needed to find a way around their questions.
The heartbeat, though. He still heard it. Steady, and calm. Clearly not Mike's, since the heartbeat never faltered. Bebop said he got to him. So who's heartbeat was it he heard?? How far away were they?
Rocksteady pushed Donatello against the wall again, shoving Donnie's shoulder into said wall, tightening his grip.
"Where is your friend-boy, turtle?"
"My friend?" Donatello asked, Rocksteady shook his head no.
"Friend-boy." He repeated.
"What do you mean by.."—He faced Bebop—"What does he mean by that?"
"He means where's your boyfriend at, pipsqueak?"
"I don't have a boyfriend."
"You don't gonna hide your pride side. We're villains, not monsters." Bebop smiled.
"Да! Friend-boys." Rocksteady announced, letting go of Donatello to hold Bebops hand tightly, as he pointed at himself and then at the man beside him.
"You. You mean boyfriends??" Donatello asked, eyes widening. Bebop nodded. The heartbeat in the distance quickened, for a mere second. Who's was it? Why were they hiding if they could hear?? And why hide so terribly as to not disguise your heartbeat? Up against ninjas, hello?! We search for heartbeat. You have to listen to the sounds of their weapons, we're that quiet.
"So where he?" Rocksteady asked, and Donnie turned his head again to face him.
"I'm not in a relationship." Donatello answered.
"Yo, is this truth serum not workin or some shit?" Bebop complained, throwing the empty syringe at a nearby wall.
"Sodium Thiopental isn't a truth serum." Donatello noted, smiling proudly at his correction.Bebop turned to face Donatello, clearly annoyed.
"What did you eat for breakfast this morning then?" He asked, trying to prove a point.
"I'm nocturnal."
"Okay, then what did you eat for breakfast this night?"
"You don't eat breakfast at night."Unless breakfast for dinner," Rocksteady added.
"Whateva! Tell us where you keepin them fools!" Bebop yelled, glaring at the turtle.
"I am not telling you shit." Donatello announced, "Because I genuinely have no idea."
"Told you, truth serum." Bebop looked over at Rocksteady and smirked. While the two went back and forth, Donatello slowly snuck away into the shadows for cover, the dimly lit room helped. He still felt a bit weak, but he pushed the pain away for now. He'd need to get the drug out of his system later. Until then, just don't think about answers.. And don't answer questions.
Rocksteady and Bebop eventually noticed Donatello's disappearance, when he was hiding by the door.
"Where did that little turtle go?" Bebop asked, spinning around to look.
"Weird one not little. Human sized, and tall." Rocksteady corrected, and the two animals stared at each other for a long, silent moment.
"But compared to us he's small. So he should fear us!" Bebop eventually yelled, and Rocksteady nodded, pausing again after.
"But small people scary."
"No! No they are not!"Donatello eventually snuck out of the doorway when he knew for sure they wouldn't see him, and he ran silently through the halls. Searching for the heartbeat. It got quicker, as he ran. But it wasn't his own, unless he was going crazy? No. He wasn't. He couldn't be going crazy, cause now as he stopped moving, it was loud. And seemed nervous. Donatello wasn't nervous, even after he slowed his breathing after running so wearily. He creeped towards the wooden door, and slowly reached for the doorknob, turning it slowly, before the door creaked as it opened. Donatello was weak, but that wouldn't stop him from putting his guard up as he jumped inside the room with his Bō staff in hand.
It was Casey.
Casey was in the room.
Casey Jones.
The idiot teenager.
But what shocked Donatello more, was the way Casey quickly ran over and shut the door, placing a chair under the doorknob, and then pinning Donatello against the wall. Casey's face was blank, serious, but unreadable. Whatever Casey's intentions were it wasn't obvious for Doantello. And even-Jones leaned in close, and kissed Donatello.
