"So this is it? You're really leaving me?", Alicia said.
I smiled at her.
"I'm so sorry girl. I never intended for it to end like this. But if Brandon can't stay here, neither can I", I replied.
She nodded her head.
"I understand."
I hated to leave Alicia. She was the best roommate I've ever had. I'm going to miss our laughs and our late night talks. I know it won't be the same without her.
"Is that it?", she asked.
"Yep, that's it."
I put my things down and gave her a big hug. The biggest one yet.
"I'm going to miss you girl", I said.
"I'm going to miss you too."
She went over to her bed and grabbed a blue bag.
"This is for you?"
"What's this?", I asked.
"It's a little goodbye gift.
I opened up the bag. Inside was a photo album. It had all the pictures me and Alicia took while I was here at Weston. My eyes teared up.
"This is the best gift ever. Thank you", I said.
"You're welcome. Now please go before I cry again", she said opening the door for me. I gave her one last hug and went down to meet my parents. They were talking to Mr. Simmons.
"Hi Megan. You all set?", he asked giving me a folder.
"What's this?"
"That's your release papers from the college. I'm so sad to see you go. But I'm also very excited to see what the future holds for you", he said shaking my hand.
"Thanks."
"You're welcome."
My dad helped me carry my bags while we exited the building.
"Do you want to stop by and get some ice cream honey?", my mom asked me.
"No, thanks I just want to go home", I replied.
We got in the car and headed home. It was a silent trip back home. None of us said a word. All you could hear were the sounds of the road. I thought about Taylor and how she must be feeling. For the first time, I felt hopeless. I felt empty. And the thing is. I had to break all ties with Brandon. And as much as it hurt I couldn't go back. I loved him. Everyone knew that. But could I give him the love that he wanted and desperately needed? No. So it was only best if we parted ways. I know I said it before but I mean it this time. I could no longer fall for his tricks or fall for his love potions. Although, I wondered how he was doing. He was ejected from Weston Lake University four days before I decided I no longer wanted to be there. It was sad to see such a nice guy suffer. But I had to take care of myself mentally and that meant being as far away from him as possible. At all times.
"Ok we're here", my dad said.
"Megan don't worry about getting any of your things, your father will get it for you", my mom said.
"Thanks", I replied.
I went inside the house. Boy did I miss the smell of fresh pine cones on a rainy day. I heard footsteps coming downstairs.
It was Jaden and his babysitter Stephanie.
"Hey big sis", he said giving me a hug.
"Hey lil bro", I said hugging him back.
"I missed you."
"It's good to see you Megan", Stephanie said giving me a hug.
After she left, my mom decided to make spaghetti.
It wasn't until around 4:00 when we got a knock at our door.
"I'll get it", I said.
When I opened the door, I was surprised to see Taylor standing right in front of me.
"Taylor...hi?", I said.
"Hey Megan, may I come in?"
"Sure", I replied moving aside.
We sat in the living room.
"Is everything ok", I asked.
"Yeah, so far so good. I went for my ultra sound. His little heartbeat is so cute", she replied.
"Oh you're having a boy?"
"Yeah", she smiled.
Then she grabbed my hand.
"Megan, I know I'm probably too late, but I can't do this without you. I can't function without you being there to remind me that I can make it. When we fell off I got so mad at you for giving me advice that I was completely unaware that James was cheating on me. It hurt when he broke it off with me, and I became so bitter and angry at the world. And then I spoke to God and he taught me how to love and forgive. Even the ones that hurt you. So I'm asking you please. Please be my best friend again? Please take me back? I want you to be the God mother of my baby. I want you there at my baby shower. I don't care what problems we face. As long as we do it together", she sobbed.
I hugged her.
"I forgive you", I said.
She sobbed uncontrollably while I tried to calm her down.
"I'm so sorry Megan. I'm so sorry", she cried.
"It's ok."
She cried for a few minutes until my mom came in with some hot tea.
"Thank you Mrs. Archie", Taylor said.
"You're very welcome."
She took a sip of the tea.
"She never disappoint with you're beverages", she laughed.
We all talked for a moment and then I asked Taylor if she wanted to call tomorrow.
"Yes that would be great", she said.
"Ok, I'll give you a call maybe around noon?"
She nodded.
"That's fine".
As she left, I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I could finally sleep knowing that me and Taylor were on the path of mending our friendship back together. I knew it took a lot of guts for her to come and apologize and admit her mistakes. And it takes an even stronger woman to walk away from a situation rather than stay in it. And that was Taylor. That was my friend. For life.
