I woke up. It was quiet. Really quiet.
I stretched and got out of bed. It was still dark so I new I was up way earlier than I should be. I went down stairs to get some water. I made sure to tip toe so I didn't wake anyone up. I poured me a glass of water and went back upstairs to go to sleep.
Later that morning I was waken up my a phone call. It was Taylor.
"Hello?", I asked groggily.
"Hey Megan, it's me Taylor. I'm sorry to wake you up, but I need to see you immediately it's important", she replied.
"Ok I'm on my way", I said.
I sighed. I really didn't want to get up but since my friend needed me I was going to be there for her.
I got dressed and went downstairs.
"Hey mom Taylor said-"
"Yes she told me", she smiled.
"Ok."
I grabbed a bagel and got my moms keys off the hook. I haven't driven in a while so it felt a little weird. I took a total of 27 twists and turns to get to where Taylor was. I finally spotted her near a street lamp.
I parked the car and ran up to her.
"Taylor, what's wrong?"
"She grabbed my arm.
"I might be crazy but I'm pretty sure I just saw Brandon walking along the bridge", she replied.
I stopped her.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. You saw Brandon?, I asked.
"I'm pretty sure."
She motioned for me to follow her.
There's no way she could've seen Brandon. He lives twenty minutes away from Weston.
About two blocks away I saw a figure with a black shirt on and pants. We stepped closer."Brandon?", I asked.
He turned and looked at us. His eyes were bloodshot red. Almost as if he had been drinking.
"Stay back Megan!", he yelled.
He got closer to the edge of the bridge.
"I don't want to live anymore!"
"Brandon wait!", I said slowly steeping closer to him.
"I know you're hurt and humiliated and misunderstood. But I promise you, it gets better."
"That's easy for you to say! You're repetition is still valid!", he said getting ready to jump.
"No! Stop. I love you!"
He turned toward me and stopped.
"What?", he asked.
"I said I love you Brandon! I don't care that you aren't popular anymore! I don't care if you have a chip on your shoulder! I've always loved you for you!", I said reaching out my hand to him.
He looked down.
"If it was really us, then why did you leave?", he asked.
"Because I didn't want to stay there if you weren't with me! I wanted it to be us. I always wanted it to be us.", I replied.
He took a step closer.
"Brandon please. If you end it now it won't end your sorrow and your pain. It will make it worse", I said.
He shook his head.
"I dreamed of being in the NFL."
"And you can still be in the NFL, and I'll be your number fan, cheering you on", I replied.
I stepped closer and grabbed his hands.
"Don't leave me", I cried.
He looked at me.
"Please don't do this."
He stepped down and hugged me.
The world around me was completely zoned out. It was just me and him. I tried and I tried but I couldn't let him go. It was like was a part of me. I tried leaving for my own sake, but it turned out it was for both our sakes. If Taylor hadn't called me when she did and I got here to talk to Brandon, he would be dead right now. And I would never forgive myself.
He kissed me. And once again, I fell in love with him all over again. And I knew for sure this time, that he wasn't going anywhere. Not now. Not ever.
"I love you", he said.
"I love you too."
Taylor came up to and handed me my phone. It was my mom.
"Hello?"
"Hey sweetie, is everything ok, you've been gone for a while.", my mom said.
"Yeah, everything's fine mom.
"Ok, well hurry home. Me and your father have a few errands to run."
I laughed.
"Ok mom."
I hung up.
"Let's get you home", I said pinching his cheeks.
After I dropped Brandon off at home, I drove to my house.
"Hey guys", I said putting the keys back on the hook."Hey honey", my mom said.
"Listen, I was taking-"
"Yeah, we know. You were taking Brandon home", dad said cutting me off.
"How did you know?", I asked.
"Taylor told us", my mom replied.
"Oh."
"Yeah, we never knew honey", my dad said coming to hug me.
I cried.
"I love him so much."
"We know honey. We know", my mom said stroking my hair.
I cried into their arms. It was nice to know that had my back and supported what I did.
"Now I think you should go and talk to Taylor. She really wants to speak with you", my mom said wiping my tears.
"Ok."
I went upstairs to my room and called Taylor.
After a couple of rings she finally answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey girl."
"Megan! Hey how are you!"
"Better thanks to you", I said.
She giggled.
"Don't mention it", she replied.
"No, but I really want to thank you. There's no telling what would've happened if you hadn't been there looking out for me."
"Megan, when I called you a fake friend, I pondered that and now I see what a fake friend really is. It's someone that doesn't care about you and isn't there for you. But you're the exact opposite. You're like a sister to me. And I took your love for granted", she said.
"Yeah, but I've forgiven you, and we're working on mending back what we had", I reminded her.
"Thanks girl."
"No problem."
I hung up. I was now able to live with myself again. I was no longer trying to fight a battle that wasn't mine. It felt refreshing and oh so sweet. And I finally had Brandon. Yes Brandon Johnson. My boyfriend. I never thought I would say that word but here I am. In love with the guy that stole my heart. And I don't care about the past. I only cared about the future and what life has in store for us. I know it's not going to be easy. But as long as I was doing with him, I had no reason to be scared. Like Alicia always said. Confidence is key girl!
