I Don't Care If You're Contagious

"Hurry up Vic, we're on in 5," Jaime yells to me from across the stage. I stepped around broken beer bottles and various arrangements of alcohol based garbage.

"Okay," I respond swinging my guitar up over my head.

Jaime grinned, "This is so awesome. Can you believe it's our first actual gig?"

I raise an eyebrow, "It's just Tony's beach house."

"Yeah but have you seen the crowd out there? It's insane," he says, "My goal is to get them moshing."

Okay, yes that would be pretty cool, I have to admit. But honestly I'd be lucky if I didn't have an anxiety attack on stage.

"You mutherfuckers ready?!" Mike screams, running past us quickly to his drum set.

Tony appears moments later, marijuana in between his index fingers, "Alright let's get this done son."

Jaime rolled his eyes, "You can't have that up here."

"I fuckin' can," Tony says blowing smoke in his face.

Jaime stepped back, coughing, "Fine, fine. But you better not-"

Mike hit the bass drum, interrupting the two with deep vibrations. The feeling lingering in my chest.

"It's time," Mike says, grinning mischievously.

Oh fuck. Oh fuck! I can't do this. I can't do this.

The maroon-colored canvas flew up in an instant, revealing the masses of people. I gripped the neck of my guitar tightly, causing the feedback to scream out a little.

"W-why are there so many people?" I asked Tony, my voice beginning to shake.

"I guess I'm popular," he chuckles.

Then, it was as if everything became still, and all I could hear was Mike's sticks clashing.

One...two...one..two..three..four.

All eyes were on Tony, whom was playing the intro for "Sometimes You're the Hammer, Sometimes You're the Nail" by A Day To Remember.

I licked my lips and exhaled deeply, "You wanna take take take take take it away from me."

"Take it away from me," echoed Jaime. I smirked, gaining a little more confidence than before.

I can do this.

"You can't wait wait wait wait wait till I'm stumbling. Go get carried away!" I screamed into the microphone. I flipped my hair out of my face and licked my lips once again. The thickness in the air kept my vocals smooth, unfortunately, the humidity radiating off of the beach caused my once straightened hair to curl at the edges. Fuck my luck.

The crowd responded aggressively, thrashing into each other and screaming back. Jaime kicked one of the amps off of the stage, sending another scream of feedback through the sound waves. Fuck, be careful, that's expensive.

I ran my fingers along the strings, of coarse only playing chords because of Tony's unbelievable guitar skills. And it made it slightly more difficult to sing and play at the same time.

"When the fear sets in, in an instant! Too much of myself gets exposed! This is where I go at my weakest, when I don't have to be scared to tell the truth!" I gripped the microphone with now sweaty hands. The heat radiated off of the stage, mostly circling back around to us. The lights overhead didn't help much either, only exemplifying the temperature.

We ended up playing a couple of songs because there were other bands coming on after us, but overall Pierce the Veil was a success! Jaime even hit his goal, a group of teenagers in the front had started a mosh pit.
