Do you ever get the feeling that maybe you are the problem?Because I sure as hell was my biggest problem.
Sitting in a cell, handcuffed and luggage-less, opposite to the misery of my life aka my arrested kidnapper, I realised that maybe my approach with the policeman could have been slightly different. I shouldn't have worded my words the way I did, making myself a suspect in the process.
The stares we got when the policeman brought us here were a mix of curiosity and muse. It had surely been a while since two people clad in mud entered the police station.
I had made sure to apologize the helper lady for ruining the recently mopped floor while she gave me the stink eye. Phew.
" Let me call a friend. It's been a while since you brought us here and I haven't even been allowed to make a call. " my kidnapper snapped at the constable. The command in his voice was one very hard to ignore.
I wondered what he did when he wasn't kidnapping people. Hmm, maybe he was a dog trainer? It'd suit him. With a face like that, he can surely be an actor, the hot as hell villain everyone is supposed to hate but ends up loving. If only he had a tattoo- what nonsense was I thinking?
Just shut up and concentrate." Only one call." the constable negotiated, his voice small. Was he afraid of our mighty villain? Ha!
"Thank fuck. "
The constable proceeded to open his cell and giuded him to the landline, fading away from my sight. He didn't even spare me a glace. Nasty bitch.
My eyes settled on my companions in the cell, two ladies with personalities poles apart from each other. The first looked no less than 30 years of age while the second was seemingly a year or two less than her. They had introduced themselves as Shreya and Rucha.
" Why are you here sunglasses? " Shreya asked and I doubted it was out of curiosity. I pushed my sunglasses up the bridge of my nose as a response.
Why the hell was I wearing sunglasses in a prison?
Oh right, to add to the drama. I wanted people to wonder, who is this mysterious lady? Why is she here? What crime did she commit? Murder? Torture? Damn she looks badass.
I simply wished to spice up the situation. Was I being an idiot? Maybe.
Atleast I was a happy idiot.
" Drug dealing and kidnapping," the words were out of me before I gave it a second thought.
"Damn! " I heard her whisper. The need to clarify myself engulfed me.
" Not like that. It's a misunderstanding. I- " I fumbled with my words.
" I killed my husband when he asked me to show him a greater hell than the one I gave him. Now that's a misunderstanding." Rucha, the girl with innocent eyes murmured. When I first saw her I had classified her as someone who couldn't kill a fly, let alone her own husband. Looks can be deceiving, truly.
What the actual fuck.
" And I robbed a jewelry shop because apparently that was the only way I could afford it, the owner's words not mine. " Shreya stated the words as if it was the most casual thing to say.
God, where was I trapped?
" You guys are pretty understanding, I mean misunderstanding but standing nonetheless. But I don't like standing, so I'll take a seat. " I rambled as I sat on the stool beside me, unable to contemplate what the hell was happening and why the hell was I here.
