Rivaah's POV

"Who was he?"

"Who was who?"

"You know who I'm talking about."

"Why would I know who is the who you're talking about?"

"Because who is who you know-"

"WHO IS WHO-"

"I'M TELLING YOU WHO IS HE WHO YOU KNOW-"

"Alright stop."

At that, I heard her inhaling a deep breath as I mimicked her actions. Even the sigh that left my lips sounded like another 'who'.

"Who picked up my call last night?" Ved asked as if she was a police inspector interrogating the criminal.

Huh, what's that about?

"I was with no one. I was alone last night because I had-"

"Stop lying bitch, I know I heard a man's voice yesterday-"

"I'm telling you-"

I stopped mid sentence when I saw a looming presence behind me.

Slowly, almost comically, I turned around untill a midnight blue shirt invaded my line of vision. Well I think I've seen this shirt before- as if a bulb lit up in my head, my head jolted upwards to see the all too familiar face.

"Kartik-"

I yelped away from my phone when I heard Vedika's screeching voice, "WHATTT, WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN?"

I quickly cut the call, looking at him guilty since I was caught using phone during office hours. But I wasn't one to blame, Vedika had spammed me with calls. What finally did it for me was when she sent me a telephone no. Saying that it was my office's official number, and that if I didn't pick up her call then she would call that number.

I was your favourite child, wasn't I god? Then what is this fate you are writing for me? Be a little gentle, please..

A clearing of throat interrupted my thoughts and I was pulled back into the present where my boss had caught me chatting with my bestfriend during office hours.

I lowered my eyes, and braced myself for another lecture on office ethics from him but it never came.

"Rivaah,"

The way he spoke it, almost tenderly, made me look at him in surprise. He must have registered my surprise since his mask was back on, his face not giving away any emotion.

"Did you take your medicine?"

"Huh.."

"Medicine. Did you take it?"

His intense eyes bore a hole through my head, making my head a bit fuzzy.

Why is he asking me that?

His eyes were still set on me like a predator, awaiting my answer. But my chatty mouth was suddenly at a loss of words.

Cat got your tongue, miss chatterbox?

So I merely noded at him.

He noded back, looking at me for a second longer before dissapering into his cabin.

Me, on the other hand, was left there, she'll shocked, yet again.

Twice before, today, Kartik had just suddenly popped up besides me, looking at me with such ferocity as if he was trying to deduce something. As if I was his subject and he was trying to examine something.
