I refuse to believe I could ever have a life better than the one I've created inside my head.
The life inside my head... it's magical, full of hope. Almost a fairytale. Where I have a perfect life, perfect family, perfect job. Everything my real life lacks. It's everything my teenage self hoped for. It's everything I still hope for.
Hope.
A silly word isn't it? It makes you dream even when you know it'll all fade away when you wake up. It makes you cross your fingers, it makes you cast wishes on eyelashes and shooting stars, or when you buy a lottery ticket. It makes you pray.
It gives you the courage to take the risk even when your logic disapproves.
Hope.
It is also the reason behind the sadness you feel when you wake up from a dream, knowing that's what it was, just a dream. It makes you loose faith in the world when you don't win the lottery, or when your wishes backfire.
But since the world runs on hope, who am I to run on a treadmill. I'll go by hope too.
With all of these thoughts going on in my head, I blow off the eyelash from the back of my palm, hoping that my first day, as well as all the other days at work, go well. This is the job I've dislocated my life for, it has to work out well.
"You can go in." Shital, the receptionist, announced as she placed her receiver down.
Alright then. Deep breaths.
I pushed the door to the HR's cabin slightly open, knocking lightly on it. I heard a soft 'come in'.
I entered and took the chair when the lady, Mrs. Anisha Nair as the name read on the table, gestured. She intiated a follow through interview and breifed me about the project I was recruited in.
It was a dream come true project. Truly.
The company I am going to work with, YM, short for YoungMinds, is a big tech company that generates softwares for easy learning processes for students. Students of all age groups get access to the methods and videos created by several creators, through animations and AI, that bring an ease and an interest in their way of learning.
And no, it's not like the education channels on YouTube. Here, they don't give you a trick to learn the periodic table. It's no memory game they play.
It's been almost 4 years since the app was launched. And I came across it almost two years back, and ever since, I wanted to be a part of it. Three months ago when I saw the vacancy on the managing team for their new project, I applied and got in. Amazing, isn't it?
Their new project was an offline institution for an overall development for students. And it is going to be unlike any normal college or school. The details of this project are yet to be known by me, but I have a feeling it's gonna be incredible.
I left the HR's cabin and just like she told me to do, I asked the receptionist about Mr. Mathur, the project manager.
"He's on site today. And you'll have to work there too, mostly. So do you wish to visit today too? " Shital asked.
Of course I do.
I noded and she told me to sit in the white car standing near the parking. Oh, so they had transportation servies to the site? Awesome.
**********_**********
Honestly, I was expecting Mr. Mathur to be a bald man at the verge of retirement. What I was NOT expecting was him to turn out to be a Ken. Well, without the blonde hair and beach. Ofcourse.
"Call me Nirav. Mr. Mathur sounds like a retired old man," Nirav said, forwarding his hand for a handshake.
So I thought.
" Nice to meet you Nirav, I'm Rivaah. And nice hat by the way." I tease him. He flicks his hat in a low bow ," Why thank you young lady. "
I chuckle at his childishness. I'm soo gonna love working here.
I found it weird that he was wearing a hat at first, but as we started walking around, I realized it was a brilliant idea. Better than being sun burned atleast.
"Do you have an extra hat by any chance? " I asked him expectantly.
And he casually lifts his hat and places it on my head. Before I could even deny him because Ofcourse I didn't want his hat, I notice that there is already a hat sitting on his head, a replica of the first one. Alright, what he did was awesome.
"For emergencies. Always comes handy. " he explains, maintaining eye contact with me. Since he was a bit taller than me, he leaned in a bit to come to my level. It was hot.
"Well, now I'm expecting a horse to pop out of nowhere. " I said, shifting my eyes away from his. Oof.
"Well you can always ride me. " I watched as his face changed from a proud smirk to a subtle realization and than of mortification real quick.
"That came out wrong... I didn't mean," the tips of his ears were turning pink and the sight was Adorable.
I chuckled heartily. He shuffled his hair nervously, letting out a flushed chuckle.
We toured the main building and I was gobsmacked. The construction was nice, but the little themes in every room were eye catching.
Like the room we just entered would look like a gaming room from the outside, but in truth it was a robotics cabin. Everything around here was wired and censored and chiped.
The other room we entered was a history room. I was confused too when I heard about there being something like a history room? I was like what would there be?
But it was the coolest shit I've seen in my entire life.
" This projector projects entries of all the battles and major historical events on the big screen. There is a hologram machine that has virtual weapons used in the battlefield by warriors, and this thing right here is a weight stimulator, so students can realize how heavy the weapons used in wars were. "
This was freaking cool.
" Wait up, there's more. Since, history wasn't all about battles and weapons, we decided to show the political side of history to students by making them impersonate the characters. There are datas of character ideologies, thought process and behavoir by our psychologists. So students can cosplay their favourite freedom fighter and recreate the round table conferences. Isn't it awesome? "
I nodded, not able to do anything else. This freaking institution was going to be a gamechanger. I'm sure of it.
There were entire rooms dedicated to subjects. But there were no typical classrooms. Weird.
" Why are there no classrooms?"
"For one, this isn't a school. And secondly, the main intention of building this institution was to eradicate the typical classroom concept. You'll know all of it. Soon"
This institution was still a mystery to me. Was it for children or for college going students? Was it approved by the government? Or was it like tution classes? Could it be an alternative for school or college? I had so much to know.
