WHERE GREEN MEETS YELLOW
mattheo riddle - hp universe
act one - chapter four
" gossip and dragons ""mattheo riddle!"
cedric's voice boomed through the great hall. the dark brunette looked up quickly, scanning the room before his eyes set upon the hufflepuffs across the room. the boy looked at draco on his left, who merely shrugged.
"shut up!" charlotte's eyes widened as his voice still slightly echoed.
"you what?!"
"yes."
"no."
"yes, ced."
"but he's—"
"i'm well aware."
"so you didn't kiss?"
charlotte hesitated. "n-no."
"you totally did."
"no, we didn't." she paused. "i sort of wish we did, though." she added quietly.
"well of course you do! he's hot!" cedric whispered the last part, but the heat flushed through her cheeks nonetheless.
"ced! you can't have my almost-kiss!" she joked.
"don't you know the only reason i'm gay is to steal your potential boyfriends?" he laughed at his own joke, causing her to laugh with him.
"whatever. as if there's been any worthy candidates anyways." he smiled wide at her.
charlotte, upon remembering cedric yelling a boy's name, glanced back at the slytherin table, and there, through all the kids that went to hogwarts, the gryffindors, other hufflepuffs, ravenclaws, and a few slytherins, sat mattheo riddle, staring at her.
she tilted her head a little, the way she always did when trying to figure something out, as she studied his expression.
mattheo, upon making eye contact, turned back to his friends. "what?"
"nothing, just talking about your dumb book. 'celsius', was it, matt?" theodore joked.
"hey, leave me alone. fahrenheit is a good book."
"please. you wouldn't even read if charlotte didn't, too." draco teased, saying her name in a jokingly sarcastic manner.
"she probably just finished reading it." blaise said.
"wait, are you talking about 451 fahrenheit? charlotte was raving about that book; finished it in less than a week. surprised she's not a ravenclaw, that one." lorenzo jumped in, causing the rest of the boys to exchange glances.
"knew it." blaise laughed, bumping shoulders with theo.
"you lot are annoying." mattheo scoffed, looking down at his food.
"awe, lover boy's feelings are hurt." draco said in a feigned sad voice, before laughing and nudging mattheo.
after the laughter died down, and the group got calmer, blaise was about to take a bite of food, before talking. "i'm pretty sure they were talking about you, y'know." he said, putting his fork in his mouth.
"what?" mattheo asked, looking up. he didn't want to act like he cared, so he pretended to not know cedric had yelled his name. that would work...right?
"yeah, didn't you hear diggory yell your name?" theo added.
"oh." he said. however, even though he feigned indifference, a small smile grew on his face as the group continued to eat, glancing up between blaise and theo to see her already looking at him.
