WHERE GREEN MEETS YELLOW
mattheo riddle - hp universe
act one - chapter eleven
" library nicknames "

"cedric diggory." charlotte said sternly, hands placed on her hips and her weight shifted to one side. "where have you been?" he voice came off like a mother scolding her son for missing curfew.

"charlotte!" he exclaimed excitedly, jumping up from the window seat in the hufflepuff common room to give his best friend a hug. "i feel like i haven't seen you in a while."

"yeah, things got a bit complicated for a second there."

"well now you have to tell me everything." he smiled, leading her to his previous seat.

"well, mattheo and i almost kissed in the library," she started. "then, fred weasley asked me to the ball," she paused to laugh at his expression of disapproval, before continuing. "and then, we agreed we're better off as friends and one thing lead to another and i kinda sorta kissed mattheo in the astronomy tower." her words rushed together towards the end, but cedric clung to her every word.

"what?" he nearly screamed, causing her to shush him aggressively. "what?" he repeated, this time much quieter.

"i know." she said, her voice trailing off a bit as her lips curved into a smile.

"charlotte! i love that for you!" he said happily, hugging her. "but now i have news." he pulled away excitedly and sat up straight.

"yeah, what have you been up to these last few days?"

"well, so you know how i've been, like, crushing on alexander melato?"

"crushing doesn't seem like the right word, but yes, go on."

"well i asked him to the ball and he said yes. so we went together, and at the end of the night, he walked me to my dorm and we kissed, too."

"cedric! that's amazing!" she said happily, hugging him with support just as he and done for her.

they pulled away and sat in silence for a moment, before he turned to her again. "wait, so you had weasley and riddle fighting over you?"

"well i wouldn't say fighting—"

"charlotte, you haven't had any potential suitors the entire time i've know you, and suddenly when i disappear from your life for a few days, you have boys falling at you feet left and right?" she giggled as he gasped. "am i some sort of cockblock?" he asked, feigning offense.

"what? no!" she laughed, hugging him again. "never."

"good, because you're never getting rid of me. even if that means we stay single forever."

they smiled and nodded, agreeing that would be the case.

the next time they had potions class, mattheo and charlotte went to the library to work on their potions project. you'd be surprised at how much they got done.

"hey, mattheo?" charlotte asked out of the blue, the soft voice startling him. the boy looked up and smiled a little bit as he saw she was already looking at him.

"yes, charlotte?"

"uhm, i was just, uhm, wondering..." she trailed off and she nervously thought how she would word her question.

"yes, love?" her heart thumped quickly as he voiced the nickname that had been sitting on his tongue since he'd first met her at the party.

a soft smile crept onto her lips as she looked into his eyes. "can i call you theo?" she asked.

this time, it was his turn to smile. "well, i'm pretty sure everyone calls me matt..." he paused for drama, but as he watched her face fall a bit, he quickly finished his sentence. "but i think, if it's just you, i suppose you could have your own special nickname for me." he smirked, making her blush profusely.

"you're so cocky."

he raised his brows questioningly, signifying that a dirty joke had crawled into his mind. "that's what—"

"no! no." she scolded, slapping his arm.

"ow!" he exclaimed, rubbing his arm. "that really hurt, lottie."

her eyes glanced up at his, both smiling a bit. "what?"

"well, i figured since you get your own special nickname, why don't i?"

"fine. as long as you still say the other thing."

"what other thing?" he asked his question genuinely at first, furrowed brows and all, but once it came to him, he decided to keep up the act, just to see if he could get her to say it.

"you know. that other thing you said."

"charlotte i have no clue what your talking about." he smirked.

"you do too! look at that smirk! you so know what i'm talking about."

"nope, zilch, nada."

"mattheo riddle, you know what i'm talking about. stop messing with me."

"charlotte scamander," he moved to sit on his knees in front of her, holding her hand. "i have no idea what you're saying." but the giant smirk on his face gave everything away.

"i hate you." she said smiling.

"no you don't."

"only a little."

"only none."

"how would you know?"

"because you kissed me." he smiled, leaning up and tugging her towards him by her hand. they were now so close, their lips were just grazing each other. "...love."

a small sigh left her lips as she leaned forward and kissed  him.
