WHERE GREEN MEETS YELLOW
mattheo riddle - hp universe
act one - chapter five
" jealous hufflepuff "

"who's taking you to the yule ball?" asked chloe, a girl charlotte roomed with.

"oh, i'm not sure yet. no one's really asked me." said charlotte.

"what about you hannah?"

"can i be honest?" hannah, another girl in their room, whispered.

"no." charlotte said jokingly.

"i kind of hope one of those slytherin boys ask me."

"what, like, the voldy squad?" asked chloe.

"yeah."

"voldy squad?" asked charlotte.

"oh, that's what we call, like, draco malfoy and mattheo riddle and that whole group." chloe explained.

charlotte hummed, thinking. "who do you like, hannah?" she asked.

"lorenzo's pretty cute."

"he's nothing compared to mattheo!" exclaimed jenna, thier fourth and final roommate, as she walked in.

charlotte got stiff and quiet as she listened to the three giggle. "yeah, he's pretty hot." chloe agreed.

charlotte thought for a moment. did her internal crush for mattheo make her no better than these girl? sitting here talking about how handsome he looked studying in potions or how sexy he was at quidditch practice?

no, she thought. we held hands, that's something...

right?

"what about you, char?" hannah's question tore the girl from her thoughts.

"what?"

"told you she wasn't listening." jenna whispered to chloe, but she had heard, anyways.

"who do you like?" hannah explained nicely, after shooting the other two a glare.

"oh, uhm, i don't know."

"maybe you should go with cedric! you're, like, practically dating, right?" asked jenna.

"uhm, no."

"oh, well then, can i?"

charlotte was about to correct her, before she thought better of it. i'll teach her to call my almost-kiss hot. "oh, yeah, sure. go ahead. you're totally his type."

"really?"

"oh yeah."

"you're evil!" exclaimed draco, laughing in shock as he did so.

"so what? she deserved it." shrugged charlotte.

"and why, exactly, is that?" asked lorenzo, leaning his elbows on his knees as he listened.

draco, lorenzo, blaise, and charlotte were all sitting in the courtyard. they had finished their last class, which they'd all shared, an hour or two ago and decided to sit in a circle and talk, something they didn't often get to do together.

"well, she..." charlotte started, but soon realized both she was being petty, and that she couldn't tell these guys the real reason she'd been cruel to the girl. the real reason was their shared best friend, for merlin's sake. "she just did."

"girl stuff." draco whispered to blaise, making both chuckle and earning them a glare from the hufflepuff.

"its not like she didn't give me a pad or something, draco. its a legitimate reason."

"tell us then." he said stubbornly, crossing his arms.

"no." she replied.

"tampon, then?" he continued.

"oh shut it, malfoy." she said sarcastically, rolling her eyes.

"okay, but really. what is it?" enzo asked after a few moments of silence.

charlotte sighed. she thought for a moment, before giving in. what's the worst that could happen? she looked around, assuring herself no one was around to hear, before leaning in. the boys would never admit it, but they'd leaned in, as well. "she called someone hot; someone i like." charlotte said shamefully.

"really?" draco groaned.

enzo, however, ignored him. "who? tell me everything." blaise laughed at him as the brunette sat forward to listen more intently.

"i- i..." she paused, planning her words. "i don't want you guys to laugh."

"we won't." assured blaise.

"and please don't tell him. i'd just die of mortification if--"

"just spill it already!" exclaimed draco, making he other three pause in surprise, before the slytherins turned back to the girl.

"mattheo." she said softly, making each of the boys react. draco's eyes widened dramatically, looking at his other two friends to see if they'd heard what he had. lorenzo audibly gasoed, but had a wide grin on his face as he smiled with pride; the way a mother would at their child.

and blaise, well blaise simply nodded. "knew it." he said.

charlotte's head whipped towards him. "what? was it obvious?"

"and you didn't tell me?" exclaimed enzo, feigning hurt that he'd been left out of blaise's realization.

blaise, before responding to the boy, glanced at the girl and shook his head, draco adding in how he's "freakishly observant."

"it wasn't confirmed, so i didn't want to go about spreading rumors. besides, its their business. not my place nor anyone else's to determine who they like and don't." shrugged the boy, to which the rest of the group nodded approvingly.

"so, like, mattheo? seriously?" draco asked after some silence.

"i don't know. it just sort of happened? i--" she cut herself off, thinking. "i guess over the past few weeks we've had more and more interactions and i just subconsciously liked him? i didn't even realized i felt this way until jenna started going on and on about his abs and shit. then she asked if i was dating ced and you know the rest from there."

"honestly, i think he has a soft spot for you." said blaise.

"really?"

"yeah. anytime enzo says or name or, shit, even if someone mentions something you like, i've seen him get this little smile. it only happens with you. he's never been this way with a girl before. he has this small smile, and his cheeks get a tiny it red." blaise explained.

"wait really? i've never really noticed." enzo mumbled the last part t himself as he thought back to every interaction he'd ever had with mattheo. or even anytime he'd seen the two together. now that he pondered on it, he could faintly remember that same expression on his face when he'd ranted to mattheo about his and charlotte's conversation.

"told you. freakishly observant."

"thanks, guys." charlotte said out of nowhere.

"for what?" asked draco, tilting his head.

"for having this talk with me. i don't think cedric likes him all that much, but i knew you'd approve of him." she said.

"of course, puffy." smiled blaise, bringing the girl in for a hug.

"pufffy?" asked draco.

"well since she's out little hufflepuff, i thought she needed a nickname to fit it." he shrgged.

"can i be honest?" charlotte asked, getting three nods. "i kind of hate it." she giggled, making the group laugh.
