WHERE GREEN MEETS YELLOW
mattheo riddle - hp universe
act one - prologue
" one way or another "charlotte's great grandfather, newt scamander, was a mythical zoologist. he studied many different kinds of magical animals, even wrote a book about them. you could say he was intrigued and interested by these curious creatures. they had that in common, the two of them.
since a young age, charlotte could remember going to her great grandfather's for family meals. she always found the older man in the crowd of their family and tore away from the party to go into his study. they spent their time together looking at his new discoveries, reading some of his older books, sharing ideas and theories, and many other pastimes.
she was very close to her great grandfather. her great grandmother had died long ago, along with her grandfather and grandmother. them, along with her aunt, cousin, and father, were all that were left of the scamander name. it was sad, if you sat and thought about it. but they never did. the family just continued on as if there wasn't a care in the world.
when charlotte got her hogwarts letter, no one was surprised. her great grandfather gave her all of his old books from his years, making sure to check that they were still up-to-date.
as soon as the girl was sorted into hufflepuff house, she sent a happy letter to her family, informing them of the victory.
one day, as charlotte was exploring her common room, she'd stumbled upon a brunette who looked to be only two or so years older than her. he had been reading on the floor, but she'd interrupted by tripping over his legs. he'd caught her and the two sat and talked for a bit.
charlotte and cedric soon became inseparable. they were the best of friends. most thought the two were dating, or at least in love, ignorantly, of course (cedric was gay).
sure, they were in love, but not in that way. charlotte loved cedric; he was the older brother she'd never had. and he loved her; she was like his little sister.
ever since the first day of first year, mattheo riddle had kept his eye on the blonde girl. he watched her laugh, cry, panic, celebrate, everything. he, from afar, observed her with intrigue. strangly, she was the only girl who didn't even spare him a glance; not even once.
this year, mattheo was determined to change that. he was going to get her to look at him, one way or another.
history of magic was interesting. charlotte didn't have class with any of her friends, sadly, but she did have class with lorenzo, apparently. she only found this out through role call, since said boy was four minutes late to class.
"hey, enzo, right?"
"yeah." he looked up from his book.
"can i sit there?" she asked, pointing at the empty part of bench to his right.
"i guess." he moved his bag.
"thanks. i'm—"
"charlotte scamander, fourth year hufflepuff. i know."
"oh."
it was always "charlotte did this" and "charlotte likes that" and "did you know charlotte hates this one thing," and frankly, enzo was sick of it. he had heard everything there was to know about this famous little hufflepuff. but he also knew that mattheo would kill him if he didn't let her sit next to him.
"why are you sitting next to me?"
"because my friend switched classes. i have no one to sit by." he simply hummed in response. "do you not like me?"
"just heard a lot about you." he said. truth is, he had heard a lot about her from mattheo, but he didn't add that part.
"oh. okay." she said softly, opening up her book.
"sorry. i'm not that mean. let's restart." he said, putting a piece of paper in his book to hold his place as he held out his hand. "i'm lorenzo berkshire, 4th year slytherin. nice to meet you."
"i'm charlotte scamander, 4th year hufflepuff. nice to meet you, too."
"friends?"
"friends." they shook hands and laughed, before going back to their work.
it was a weird encounter. neither expected for that to happen, nor for them to end up with a new friend each, but they did. it happened. and that was the beginning of lorenzo and charlotte's friendship.
charlotte soon befriended two other slytherins: draco malfoy and blaise zabini. they were both very kind to her and became almost like her guardians, in a way. some would say that charlotte was the sunshine of the group, and her three green friends were her bodyguards.
