"so what the hell is the deal with this egg?" asked charlotte as they walked down the hall to get breakfast.

"i honestly don't know. i tried opening it, but it started screeching."

"maybe try, like, opening it where the sound would be muffled or altered? like underwater, or something?"

"that's a good idea. i'll head to the prefect's bath after classes today."

"prefects." charlotte muttered mockingly.

"are you jealous?"

"no." she pouted, sitting in their spot at the table.

"don't worry, you'll be a hufflepuff prefect one day, i know it."

"after you leave school." she scoffed.

"yeah, we'll, i'll walk you to the train after graduation, how about that?"

"fine."

later that evening, after their classes, the two friends walked to their dorms, when cedric stopped suddenly outside of hers. "grab your swimsuit." he smiled, running off.

"what?"

"you heard me!" he called over his shoulder as he ran towards his dorm.

charlotte sighed, going into her room and putting on her swimsuit, before putting a hufflepuff shirt overtop as a cover-up.

as she closed the door, towel in hand, cedric walked up, clad in swim trunks and a towel around his shoulders. "come on!"

cedric lex the two through the castle, finally reaching the prefect bathroom. "ced, i can't go in there!" she scolded, turning around.

"c'mon. just a bit of fun!" he said, holding up the egg proudly, causing the girl to question why she hadn't seen it before.

"fine." he smiled as he turned and knocked on the door. peaking his head in, he realized there was no one in there, before he led the girl inside.

"time to hear an egg." he said, opening it, making her cover her ears quickly. he closed it and waited for her to take off her shirt before they both got in. "ready?" he asked. she nodded as they both went underwater, cedric quickly opening the egg again.

the song quickly filled their ears, causing them to make immediate eye contact.

come seek us where our voices sound

when the song ended, the two pushed up to the surface, charlotte's brows violently furrowed. "what the fuck does that mean?" she asked aggressively.

"like i know."

"not creepy at all." she said sarcastically, pushing against the wall and swimming around the giant bath.

"totally not." he agreed, staying at the one side.

"wait so, do you think it's mermaids?" she asked from the other side.

"that's a good idea. can't sing above the surface."

"i seem to have great ideas. maybe i should've been the champion."

"oh yeah? you wanna fight a dragon?"

"no." she laughed, making him laugh too, swimming towards her.

the two swam for a bit longer, making sure they washed themselves, remaining in their swimsuits the whole time, before getting out and drying off.

"now for the hard part; sneaking out." he said, towel wrapped around his torso.

"that's what she said." charlotte joked, earning a glare from her best friend.

cadeirc scoffed, peaking his head out to see if anyone was there, before leading her out of the room. "you're hanging around that slytherin too much."

as the words left his mouth, said boy was walking down the hall. he almost turned the corner, but hearing those words made him stop in his tracks and hug the wall.

"who, mattheo?"

"yeah."

mattheo's heartbeat increased, hearing charlotte's voice speak his name.

"what do you mean?"

"you're stealing his jokes, you're not even hanging out with me anymore."

"i'm hanging out with you now!" she said defensively.

mattheo's face fell as he understood what was happening. had he been stealing her from her friends?

"not just that. you're not even here, like, emotionally. you're always thinking about him."

"you've been thinking about alex for years! why can't i have a crush?"

"because..." cedric trailed off.

"you're jealous?"

"what? no!"

"yes you are, ced. now drop it, i don't want to fight with you. especially not when i'm half naked."

mattheo's ears perked up, but he remained where he was as he heard the two walked towards him. they passed the turn, thankfully. but as they walked away, mattheo scanned her body, his mind wandering slightly, before he quickly shut off the thoughts.

as he waited for the two to turn away from the hall, so as to not give away his position, he slowly slid down the wall. had he been a bad influence of the girl? he'd only really known her for a couple of months, but he supposed that the two had been seeing each other quite a bit.

maybe he was a bad influence. him and his friends, possibly? were they corrupting the hufflepuff?

the idea caused mattheo's heart to sink to his stomach, making him stand aggressively and storm off to the astronomy tower; his original destination since he wasn't able to sleep before.

cedric in his jealousy arc???? this is slow ik but like idk i'm trying to draw out the chapters so there's more and it's not like only a few more chapters but like at least a few more. i'm also trying to stall having to do the maze chapter. I DONT WANNA LOSE CEDRIC. i will cry. and so will u. maybe. if i do it right. hopefully. also...ik the two r kinda moving a bit fast BUT it's going to stop very dramatically in a bit so it will like stop, and then they have to almost start over. but anyways, i'm not spoiling u r. ok slayyyy byeeeeeeee 🫶
