WHERE GREEN MEETS YELLOW
mattheo riddle - hp universe
act one - chapter ten
" jealousy clouds judgment "she didn't originally have a destination. just away; away from him. somehow, her golden-wrapped heels brought her to the many, many stairs of the beloved astronomy tower.
as she pushed open the heavy door, the cool, refreshing air smacked her red, hot face like a slap, and she sighed, breathing the calming air.
she walked over to the railing, leaning on it as she closed her eyes. once the darkness encased her eyes, a few tears fell, then a sob, and soon she fell to her knees, crying hysterically as the vision of the two kept playing in her mind.
she turned to the side, leaning her back on one of the stone columns, looking to her left, through the metal rails, watching the high-up view. she sighed as a tears blurred her vision.
she shut her eyes again, taking a few deep breaths. charlotte looked down at her aching feet, pulling them towards her and taking off her shoes.
"fuck you!" she screamed, harshly throwing them across the floor, landing in the middle of the room, allowing herself to take her anger out on the shoes.
she thought she heard footsteps, her soft gasp echoing in the vacant balcony, before she looked back out at the view, deciding she didn't care.
the boy pushed open the heavy wooden door, first seeing the two golden heels strewn in the middle of the floor. his eyes trailed up, landing on the golden angel sitting and staring at the hogwarts grounds.
he said nothing as he set his suit jacket on the ground next to her shoes and walked towards the railing, leaning against it. he pulled out a blunt and lit it, looking out.
"go away, mattheo." through her tone, he could hear that she'd been crying. he glanced to his left and his eyes fell upon her tear-stained cheeks.
"no." he said stubbornly, looking back forward.
charlotte wiped her face harshly and exasperatedly looked at him. "i was here first."
"so?"
"so, i get to stay. leave."
"what are you, five?"
"yes. now leave or i'll call my mom."
"great, call her." he said, taking another drag from his blunt.
"goddamn it, mattheo. fucking leave me alone!" she yelled, slamming her hands into her lap. her outburst and use of curse words made him stand straight and look over at her, leaning his right hand on the railing while his left was raised to his lips, allowing him to inhale the smoke once again.
"what's wrong with you?" he asked. he thought he was supposed to be the upset one.
"nothing." she grumbled, looking back to her left.
"if you're going to scream at me, i at least get to know why."
"you don't get to know shit." she said, looking back at him.
"if you tell me, i'll leave."
the offer was seriously weighed in her head. "fine, you." she said simply, looking out again.
"huh?"
"you said you'd leave."
"not with a bullshit answer like that."
"goddamn it, mattheo, it's you. it's been fucking you this entire time!" she exclaimed, standing up and walking towards her shoes.
he quickly reached out and grabbed her right wrist. "now hold on a minute."
"let go." she said, softly, but sternly, not looking anywhere but at the door.
"hey, look at me." he said, gently pulling at her arm. she hesitantly gave in, allowing him to pull her slightly towards him and looking his direction, but not quite at him.
"what did i do?" he wasn't clueless enough to not realize he had done something. what, he still didn't know.
"it's stupid." she sighed, looking down, but allowing him to be in her line of sight now, her eyes landing on his chest, which was barely on view with a few buttons left undone and his tie very loose and limp around his neck.
"it's not that stupid if it got you this worked up." he reasoned, pulling her in closer and moving to tuck a piece of hair behind her ear.
"i thought you liked me." his eyes widened as the words left her lips.
"what?"
"told you; stupid."
"n-no. i—"
"don't defend it, mattheo. it's ok. i'm at peace with it." she said, pulling away her hand and walking towards her shoes.
mattheo stood in the middle of the tower, watching her quickly grab her shoes, trying to scramble together something, anything, to say.
"i do." he called. she was at the door now, her hand on the handle. "i do. a whole fucking lot. god, i like you so much, char."
"then show it." she said, turning to look at him.
"i'm trying. i'm not good at this kind of thing. i—" he cut himself off, thinking. "when i saw you dancing with fred i just thought it was all over, and i thought you were gone, that i'd lost you." he sighed.
she smiled slowly walking towards him. "i'm right here, mattheo. but where are you?"
"i'll always be right here, love. even if i don't seem like it." he said, the two now very close. he tucked another piece of hair behind her ear as charlotte dropped her shoes, placing her hands on his chest.
"say that again." she said against his lips.
"i'm right here, love." she smiled, standing on her tip-toes as she crashed her lips against his.
mattheo smirked against her lips, placing his hand on the back of her head, deepening the kiss. the girl slowly moved one hand to the back of his neck, pulling him closer.
they pulled away from each other, each taking a deep breath. "fucking finally." he muttered, causing her to giggle and she hugged him.
