WHERE GREEN MEETS YELLOW
mattheo riddle - hp universe
act one - chapter eight
" dress shopping "

"'come dress shopping with us', they said. 'it'll be fun', they said." mocked charlotte.

it had started with hannah, chloe, and charlotte planning to go dress shopping together in hogsmeade. but one thing lead to another, and now pansy, daphne, hermione, luna, cho, and ginny had tagged along as well. now there were nine girls in one dress shop, one that chloe, whose parents were scarily wealthy, had arranged for them to have alone, and with a specifically superior selection.

"cho, try this one!" exclaimed hermione, holding up a blue dress. she nodded, taking it and going into the dressing room first.

the girls all tried on different dresses. some were silly, some were glamorous, some were bland.

after a few hours, everyone else had found a dress. it took cho five dresses to find her perfect one, hermione took six, hannah tried on three, ginny liked her first one, but still tried on two or three just for fun. luna tried on four, daphne ended up trying on seven, and pansy only took two tries; she was very selective with her decisions. and finally, charlotte had tried on seventeen dresses, but none seemed to quite works.

she was currently in a silver one. everyone agreed everything about it was perfect except for the color, which washed out her pale skin.

"i'm never gonna find a dress." she said, sighing as she looked at herself in the mirror.

"char..." said chloe, gazing at her reflection.

"i hate this." she said, turning and looking at her friends.

"the dress or the ball?" asked hannah. charlotte's eyes widened as she looked at her. "don't pretend that fred weasley is your first choice for a date." she paused. "no offense, ginny." she added.

"none taken." she giggled. "none of my brothers should be anyone's first choice."

"oh, leave them alone. ron's quite nice." hermione defended.

"got something to tell us, 'mione?" giggled luna.

"what? n-no." she mumbled back, sinking into her seat.

"charlotte, don't think we forgot what we were talking about." said daphne, looking back at the girl in the silver dress.

"oh yeah. who did you want to ask you?" asked pansy, leaning on her hands as she paid attention.

"i—" she took in a sharp breath.

should she tell them? should she say that she wished, more than anything, that mattheo riddle had asked her to the yule ball?

she decided against it, making up a lie. "i was kind of hoping cedric and i could've gone and been single together." she shrugged. "but fred is really nice, so i think it will still be a nice time. plus, i'll still see ced, so it won't be completely bad." she said.

"yeah. i'm still bummed you didn't go with our group, though." said pansy.

"oh, yeah that would've been fun." added daphne.

"i'll hang out still, how about that. ill make sure i go over to your table and talk and dance with you guys. if i can ever find a dress, that is." she sighed, turning back towards the mirror.

"well, let's see. if cool colors like white, silver, and grey wash you out, then let's try warmer colors." said luna, standing up and walking towards the racks.

"ooh, you're a hufflepuff, so let's try something gold!" giggle ginny, standing as well.

"kind of like me and my green." said pansy.
