A beginning, of sorts.

Oh. Hello. You're back again. It's been a while. I wasn't expecting to see you here. I'm writing directly to you, here, reader. Of course, you go by Y/n here, don't you? But you've had quite a few names to pick from.

How many years have you lived, now? 27? And were any of them yours? How many did you start, how many did you end, how many did you simply find yourself appearing in the middle of? Well, congratulations. That makes you, what, 44? Gosh, that is an age. If it helps, you still look 17.

No, really, you still look 17.

You're surprised. Perhaps you were expecting this on your return, perhaps you didn't know you were returning at all.

Well, you left when you were 17. It doesn't matter how many other lives you've lived since then. You were 17 when you were claimed by your Reality Incompatibility, and that's the body you'll be returning to.

Oh, no, after living in various realities for 27 years, you've gotten over that. For real, this time. Don't worry. No, even if you've lived several lives up until that point. Reality has still always been there, slowly trying to make you compatible again.

Do you, actually, remember what Reality Incompatibility is? No? Well, I'm sure once you are returned back to your body you will remember what happened to you.

What year is it now, 2019? Have any of your universes been further forward than that? Well, yes, it was 2006 when you left. You've been gone just over twelve years in their time. Funny, isn't it?

Oh, surely you remember your longest-running universe, right? The one where it's fictional, where the Umbrella Academy was fictional, where the only difference was that you weren't in that fictionalised version. Do you remember that?

Or, can you more easily recollect that time you visited Reginald Hargreeves? Back in the 60's? You told him about some upcoming apocalypse. You told him the only way for him to learn more about it was to adopt you. You mentioned the word 'Oblivion'. You mentioned a Hotel. You said he could have everything he wants if he adopts you, that you were the key to it all.

Maybe that's why he kept offering more and more money for you.

Don't worry. I'd hate to leave you confused. I'll leave you some time to sift through your memories before you return. You've been kept here so long. It's only fair.
