The second landing party had arrived at Shinsenkyo. Once they stepped foot onto shore, a Soshin with snail-like eyes appeared in front of them. Intending to fight, Shugen grabbed his blade from the band on his hakama and handed it to Isuzu.
"Hold this for me."
"Huh?! Your katana?!"
"Well," Toma mocked calmly, "I guess the second-ranked member of the Yamada clan has a death wish for fighting barehanded~"
"You'll get all eaten up, Shugen." Warned Kiyomaru as the shinobi stayed quiet.
"That blade was a gift from the shogun. A rare honor. And a blade tester's pride." Shugen replied with malice, ignoring the comments of his comrades. "Not a crude tool for the likes of hunting beasts."
Shugen suddenly kicked the monster in its left shin, nearly severing its leg as it bled.
"I learned well from Fuchi. A being's physiology and stress points can be surmised at a glance. This knowledge makes dissection and disassembly simple matters..."
Suddenly, the Soshin started to grab onto the black-haired swordsman's shoulders. In response, Shugen casually grabbed the beast's wrists.
"And I learned from Sir Shion... that by perceiving waves... one can divine the structure of a being's very life force."
He then punched the Soshin's head, decapitating it immediately as everyone but the ninjas were amazed at Shugen's power. The second-ranked swordsman was instantaneously stared down by multiple monsters. However, the black-haired man was able to kill them all. Out of worry, Kiyomaru and Isuzu ran towards him with Toma and Jikka slowly followed behind.
"Are you hurt, Shugen?" asked the little boy.
"S-simply say the word, and we will join y-" the giantess said before being patted by the eye-bagged man.
"The shogunate has ordered us to monitor and execute. Nothing more. There is no need for you two to dirty your blades in service of anything else..." he then glanced at Toma and Jikka as he changed his gentle tone into a menacing one. "...except you two." Shugen looked at Kiyomaru and Isuzu with more fondness. "As such, please leave these lesser matters to me, the senior disciple."
The two followers were still stunned by their senior's glare towards the monsters and Jikka and Toma, but they quickly changed moods as a response to his compliments.
"Your eyes are all scary even when you smile, Shugen." Kiyomaru teased while trying to mimic Shugen's face.
"Oh? Truly?"
"Heh." Isuzu giggled.
"Wow. we sure can count on you." Toma sneered.
"I agree!" continued Jikka.
"I believe you are a senior to me, Sir Jikka." Shugen coldly spoke as he then turned his direction towards Toma. "And you. You are not one of us."
Despite the hostility, the purple-haired boy continued to smile as they journeyed all over the beach until they saw the bloody lower half of a Yamada clan member against a tree trunk. There was a broken katana beside the corpse. Shugen's eyes widened at the sight as Toma joked.
