They had traveled through the deeper circles of the island for hours. Even though they had encountered many monsters on the way, Chobei and Mizuho had better coordination when it comes to killing them off. The Bandit King sat on one of the corpses, drinking blood from a chopped off arm.
"Yech, disgusting." Chobei bleched. "This won't fill my belly... fewer and fewer monsters are around, too."
"Are you sure it's sanitary to eat?" Mizuho asked in both fear and disgust. "You do realize we were given some water and rations?"
"Eating? Nah, I'm drinking." the Bandit King replied. "Gulping down animals' body fluids is how people stay hydrated, back in the mountains. Besides, those rations and that water supply only last for three days." He then continued sucking the remaining blood of the severed limb while looking at her.
Despite his extreme adaptability, he's right about our shortage of consumables... Mizuho groaned internally with sweat coming out of her face.
Chobei then wiped the blood off his face. "Back to what you were saying, though... about... those hermit things?"
"Ah!" Mizuho stuttered. "I don't know much about them, but my fellow Yamada clan member Senta told me about stuff related to this... They're fictional beings based on the mountain hermits in China... Although they appear elderly, these hermits are immortal so we might see them on this island... since Shinsenkyo is supposed to be the home of hermits, not these monsters."
She then stared at the bodies of monsters the pair had slaughtered in horror as Chobei looked at Mizuho.
"Ridiculous." He scoffed. "But what if they are here, so what? I'll just slaughter the old bastards. Maybe they'll make a good meal."
"Of course, you would want to eat the elderly." Mizuho joked until she saw Chobei's expression. "I'm sorry! I should've not said that!" She looked embarrassed, embracing for impact as the Bandit King walked up to her.
"I like that joke." He joked, befuddling Mizuho.
"Huh?"
"You know, you should be more confident in not only your combat skills, but also yourself~" He smirked as he held her chin for Mizuho's eyes to meet his.
"Thank you...." she said, trying not to blush. "It's just I'm mostly used to people taking my jokes too seriously that they either slap me or insult me..."
"Then, I guess they have horrible humor..." Chobei joked until he heard something in the woods, walking away from Mizuho and chopping down the trees.
"Chobei?"
"Something's near..." he continued to slice down the forestry with his giant axe as Mizuho followed his actions. "Better be something tasty this time..."
As they finally found where the noise was coming from, Chobei and Mizuho found two girls having intimacy on top of a giant, distorted, religious statue. The two women were barely covering up with their breasts were shown and they both had flower-based hair. One of them being pink and short-haired while the other was yellow and long-haired. The couple shared a peach and ate it seductively as the blonde one chewed the fruit and shared it with the pink one, passionately kissing. As Chobei and Mizuho stared at the amorous sight, the couple were broken off their sexual gaze at each other and noticed the two mortals watching them.
