Shen was a true, one of a kind as a child. She often felt misunderstood by her mother, Sakura who wished for Shen to grow into a proper, noble young lady but thankfully, her father and sister, loved her for who she was. 

Shen knew her mother loved her too and was only trying to protect her but sometimes, she could be suffocating. Shen wished to make her own path and follow her own dreams, not follow the path or dreams her mother wished for her. 

Shen was only ten years old when her mother passed and though saddened, she still tried to keep her family together but then years later, they were attacked again. 

When they were attacked, Shen fought to protect their home, with some strange boy, wearing a ninja garb with only his amber eyes showing, and  her father had joined them to protect her. However, it sadly cost him, his life. Shen had cried in her father's chest but knowing they had no time, the boy grabbed her arm and dragged her out of their home, leading her back to her sister and grandmother. He then ran back to hold off the attackers and Shen wanted to help but her sister pulled her as well as her grandmother out of there, leaving their father's body behind.

She prayed that the boy who had helped her would be alright... 

Mei took them to the Hamato Clan in Tokyo for protection and Shen was awestruck, she never seen a ninja clan before, and she wished to explore. During her wandering off, she bumped into Saki, literally, and when he demanded to know who she was, Shen was interrupted by Mei and Hamato Yuuta who explained to his son that Shen was the daughter of a dear friend of his, and he told him how they would be staying with them from now on. 

Saki immediately apologized for his rudeness and Shen forgave him. She remembered how Saki seemed to smile, just slightly before leaving that day...

Shen was happy that Hamato Yuuta took her, her sister, and grandmother in but they all had to earn their keep. So while Mei went on missions with the ninjas, Shen would help the maids with the chores and stuff which she did not mind. All the maids and the Jonin were nice to her as she was to them, and every now and then, she would talk to Saki who she thought was very sweet, how he always wished to help her with her chores and talk to her hours on end. It was nice for her to have someone to talk to after her father died...

While cleaning the floors one evening, deep in thought, she bumped into another boy, and Shen was so startled that she kicked him straight in the jaw without thinking. 

When he fell on the ground, Shen immediately apologized but paused when she was met with amber eyes. For a moment, they just stared at each other, the boy seemed to recognize her from somewhere and it was then, that she knew he was the boy who had helped her back in Fukuoka. Shen was flabbergasted when she learned that the boy who had helped her, was actually the eldest son of Hamato Yuuta who went by the name Hamato Yoshi...
