Mike was stressing. How did Max know? Maybe she is smarter than he actually thought? But he really needed to talk to someone that wasn't Will. He decided to call Max again. He was waiting for her to answer.
Finally she did. "Mike? What do you want?" Max asked Mike. "Where are you?" Mike asked her. "In my house. Where else do you think?" Max snapped. "OK. Maybe less of the attitude, but can I come over?" Mike asked hurriedly. "Mike why..?" Max began to say but got interrupted.
"Please? Max?" Mike sounded desperate. Max sighed. "Fine. Just hurry up." Max ended the call and flopped down on her bed.

The doorbell rang. Max jumped up to answer it. She flung open the door and let Mike in. "Took you long enough," Max said, crossing her arms against her chest. "Shut up, I tried to come as fast as I could alright?" Mike snapped. "Jesus no need for the attitude," Max said. Mike glared at the red haired girl and Max glared back. Mike rolled his eyes and sat down on the sofa.
"So. Why did you want to come here?" Max asked, sitting down beside him. Mike looked at her. "Is it about the call earlier?" Max asked softly. Mike nodded. "So, you like Will?" Max asked out right. "I'm not sure! I like El but I like Will aswell! I mean, I think so," Mike added. "Well, what do you feel when you're with El?" Max asked him. " I feel happy around her. But like a friend way." Mike told her.
"And how do you feel around Will?" Max asked him. "I feel warm whenever he is near. He makes me happy. He's adorable and cute but he's my best friend. I can't call him cute can I? It's weird. I'm weird," Mike said, putting his face in his hands.
"Mike. You're not weird. You're just as sane as any of us. Well, not that sane but you know. And there is nothing wrong with liking your best friend! If it's the same gender or not! If you like them, then you do. No one can stop your feelings, Mike. No one." Max said. Mike looked up at her. "Your good at this stuff, you know that?" Mike said. "Shut up before I hit you into next week because you won't be hearing this kind of shit from me again." Max told him sharply.
"Also. What was up with that awkward hug between you two?" Max questioned him. "What do you mean?" Mike asked, completely oblivious. "That hug when Will came back. You looked as if you were going to fly into his arms and then you changed your mind halfway and just gave him a very awkward side hug!" Max exclaimed. "Oh. I just didn't feel like giving him a hug like that?" Mike said, lying to her.
"Mike." "What?!" Mike asked. "I know you are lying to me." Max said. "I'm not!" Mike said, in a squeaky voice which makes it so obvious that he is lying.
"Tell me. Now." Max warned. "Alright fine! My dad was giving me a warning look that if I ran into Will's arms he would never let me forget it!" Mike burst out. He was on the verge on tears. "Mike, what do you mean?" Max asked him. "Nothing! Nothing!" Mike said, jumping up from the sofa and ran out the front door.
Max ran after him. "Mike! Mike! For God's sake!" Max couldn't catch up to him so she gave up and went back into her house trying to process what he meant by that.
Then it clicked. Max was suddenly afraid for Mike. The Wheelers weren't as perfect as all of Hawkins thought they were.
