{Chapter 12: The Funeral}

After a few days, it was Ted Wheeler's funeral. Everyone was dressed in black. Karen still did not get over her husband's death. She had been crying over the simplest things. Nancy had been acting the mother of the Wheeler family while their real Mother was up in her room, weeping.

Mike was subdued. He didn't know what to feel. He was sad and relieved at the same time. Holly still had no clue what was going on.

The Wheeler family all got in the car, and Karen drove off. Mike looked out the window the entire journey. He was going to stay at the Byers' tonight. They were also going to the funeral.

Finally the car pulled up at the graveyard and they all piled out of the car. Nancy grabbed Holly's hand so she wouldn't ran out of the road and went into the graveyard. There were people gathered around a certain spot. The Wheeler family walked over there.

Mike immediately went over to Will. "Hey Mike, how are you feeling?" Will asked him. "Not so good," Mike mumbled. Will gave him a quick hug. ( The first I love you is playing. Coincidence? I think not!)

Mike stayed with Will untill the end of the funeral. Mike had tears in his eyes and felt something grab his hand. It was Will, trying to distract him. Despite being how sad the atmosphere was, Mike smiled and blushed. Mike squeezed Will's hand back. Finally, Mike went over to say goodbye to his mother, Nancy and Holly.

"Where are you going Mikey?" Holly asked him. "I'm going to Will's house, Holly." Mike replied, stroking Holly's chin. "Ooh can I come?" Holly piped up. Will appeared by Mike's side and laughed. "Sorry, Holly. Maybe you can come another time?" Will suggested. "Yay! Bye Will and Mike!" Holly waved to them. "Bye Holly!" Will said, waving back. Will gave Mike a nudge so he waved too.

"C'mon let's go to the car before Mom tells us off." Will said. "Alright." Mike said. Will and Mike began to walk to the car. They got in and Joyce drove off.

Byers Residence

The car pulled up into the drive way and the front door flung open and out came El. Mike opened the car door and El ran into his arms, nearly knocking Mike over. "I'm so so sorry for your loss Mike!" El said. "Thanks. Lets go inside?" Mike said. "Yeah of course. C'mon!" El said, grabbing Mike's hand and leading to him inside.

Will followed behind. Mike stepped into the house. "Wow, you guys did alot since I left." Mike exclaimed. "I know! The place looks so nice!" El exclaimed. "C'mon Mike, I'll show you where you'll be sleeping." Will said. "Alright. We'll be back El," Mike said. "Alright!" El said to Mike. She shot Will a meaningful look.

Will led Mike upstairs. His room looked cool, Mike thought. He had a Tears For Fears poster on his wall. He also had The Cure poster as well. "Nice room," Mike said. "Thanks Mike!" Will exclaimed. "So, we have a mattress or you could uh.." Will struggled to get the words out. "C'mon Byers. What is it?" Mike said, teasing him.

"Nothing! So you want to mattress then?" Will said quickly. "Yeah, mattress will do." Mike answered. "Alright then." Will said. "Yep." Mike said. There was an awkward silence between the two boys.

"Wanna head downstairs?" Will suggested. "Sure," Mike said. The two boys walked down and hung out with El the rest of the day. Mike kept looking at Will. And Will kept looking at Mike.

But they looked at each other when the other wasn't looking. Once, they looked eachother at the same time and they looked away, embarrassed.
