Amelia was seated at her dinner table. Her mother and father both being seated at the heads of the table, Mia sitting almost in between them.
Peabody family dinners were never anything special, they were boring on the good days. Some days they would sit in complete silence, others they would talk about how '93% wasn't going to cut it and Amelia needed to get her grades up'. Some days whatever tension happened between her mother and father at the law firm would be transferred back to the table.
Today was thankfully one of the boring ones where Amelia's dad Richard ate for a few minutes then took his plate up to his study. Amelia's mother Amy sat across sipping her wine from her glass. Mia needed a smoke, she was dreading to get away. It was a rather stressful day of school, filled with science and AP English tests that Amelia had pulled all nighters studying for.

Her parents did not approve of her smoking habits. Not for the reasons most parents should, her parents weren't concerned for their daughters lungs, they were concerned of their daughters image.  "How would be look if people thought we allowed our 15 year old daughter to smoke"
That was their main concern. They had to be the perfect family. Mia never understood why.
'No one really gives a shit', Amelia told Sam once. It was true, no one really did, but her parents did.

Amelia was sat at her usual lunch table, moving the food around on her tray. Councilor Blatt giving some type of motivational speech.
Mia and the rest of the table decided their phones were more interesting. Blatt's voice in the background.

"Cyber bullying is no laughing matter. Sending a cruel message to someone online can be just as hurtful as saying it to their face. Now, I'm not going to name, names, but the other day a mother called me up because her son was crying, after some kids online made fun of his facial deformity"

This caused Mia to look up and slightly frown at Eli, who this had obviously been about. He looked embarrassed as he covered his lip.
Amelia once again drowned their councilor out, this speech was useless, it would only make things worse then better.
As Blatt was going on about Halloween costumes, Aisha slid her chair over to Sam.
"I have a great idea for our costume this year"
"Um-"
"I was thinking I would go as Sodium and you go as chloride. Then when people ask what we are, we do this," Aisha said shaking the salt shaker, salt sprinkling to the floor.
Mia gave a small smile to Aisha, she felt that, the group had already established their costume.
Yasmine gave a small laugh. "What is that? Some dumb inside joke you guys have?"
Aisha then laughed. "It's not really inside. I mean Sodium Chloride is table salt"
"Yeah. I was kidding," Yasmine said, clearly embarrassed.

"We actually decided to go as Laker girls" Sam said.
"Oh,"
"But, maybe we could order another," Amelia budded in, noticing how all the happiness form her eyes seemed to drain.
"They are one size fits all. Which suddenly seems like false advertising." A few of the girls laughed at Yasmine as Aisha scooted her chair back over.

Amelia rolled her eyes. "That wasn't funny,"
"Oh my god what is it with you Amelia? Perhaps you're a little nervous you won't fit in the one size fits all? After all, you have gained a few pounds" Yasmine asked. Amelia bit her lip, grabbing her tray, standing up. "Where are you going?" Sam asked, "For a smoke."
Amelia dumped her tray in the trash. She made her way outside the cafeteria, and out the back doors. She pulled out the pack from her pocket, putting the smoke between her lips, lighting it. leaning against the wall she inhaled deeply before blowing it out, feeling her irritation melt slightly.

"You know smoking kills right?"
Amelia looked over to see the same guy who she saw a bit ago at the vending machine.
"So does Molly Pretty boy," she said taking another puff. "You know I don't actually take the molly. I sell it to help my mom."
Amelia gave him a confused glance. "Not all of us come from perfect families who have their shit together," the boy had said.
This caused Amelia to laugh, blowing out smoke. "Bold of you to assume that my family is perfect, or has their shit together,"
The boy nodded, Amelia offered him her smoke, once the boy gladly took a puff off.
"I'm Robby"
"Amelia,"
"I know. Little miss perfect," Robby said in a joking voice.
"Okay give me my smoke back pretty boy," Amelia said, taking another puff.

"So, shouldn't little miss popular be with her popular friends?"
"They are being high school bitches"
Robby nodded as he looked down at the short girl. "If they are bitches then why do you hangout with them?"
"Because they are my friends."
"Some friends"
Amelia rolled her eyes. "Why aren't you with your friends?"
"Bold of you to assume I have friends,"
Amelia looked over at him. "Really? Cool guy like you who sells molly doesn't have any friends?"

Before Robby could answer, the bell rang. Amelia sighed, putting out her smoke, then throwing the bud in the garbage.
"I'll see you around pretty boy,"
"See you Mia,"
Amelia glanced back and smiled. The rest of the school day, Robby was all that came to her mind.

Music was blasting in the gym, lights were shining, and teenagers were dancing. Amelia stood with Sam, Moon and Yasmine, all of them matching with their Lakers girls costumes.
"What do you think Kyler is going to show you?" Amelia asked Sam, who was glancing at her father. "I don't know. Ugh, why does he have to be here.", she complained pulling out her phone.
Sam then glanced over at Aisha, who was standing alone. Sam grabbed Amelia's hand, pulling her out of the conversation she was having with a group of boys.

"Hey,", Sam smiled
"Hey," Aisha replied
"I like your costume,"
"Thanks, it doesn't really work without chloride,"
Amelia shrugged. "I don't know. Chloride is pretty badass. It's the silent killer. "
Aisha smiled. "Hey I'm sorry-" Sam began
"No it's okay. I'd rather go as sexy then funny too. If I had that option"
"No don't say that," Sam said rubbing her shoulder.
"Yeah, trust me, you are stunning girl," Amelia said, causing Aisha to smile.
"Sam, Mia, we are going live." They heard Moon call.
Followed by Yasmine, "Get your asses over here,"
"One second, can we make plans to hangout soon? It's been way too long,"
"I'd love that"
"Stay salty my friend."
"Bye Aisha,"
"Bye"
With that the two girls walked back over to their group of friends, joining their live.

"Oh my god, how pathetic," Yasmine had said, causing Moon and Mia to look over at Aisha, who was eating chips at the snack table. Sam and Kyler had snuck off a few minutes ago. Yasmine then pulled out her phone. "What are you doing?" Mia had asked. "You'll just have to wait and see," Amelia felt a pit in her stomach.

A couple minutes later Sam came back. "Can we get out of here please?" she pleaded. "Not yet, wait for it" Yasmine had smirked, the pit in Amelia's stomach grew bigger when everyone's phones started to ding. Amelia pulled out her phone, hearing Moon laughing behind her. Amelia opened her phone to see a video of Aisha with a pig filter. Everyone began laughing, Aisha, completely embarrassed ran out of the gym. Amelia shook her head at her friends, her and Sam sharing a look.

It was shortly after the dance had ended, and Amelia was left rethinking her friendship choices. That night when Amelia got home, she looked at herself in the mirror, Yasmine's voice ringing in her head. Did she really gain weight? She stared at herself for what felt like hours.
