"What did you say you were doing?" Evelyn asked over the phone, as I began looking for my lost shoe.
"I'm going to the castle here, apparently they give tours to a certain part of it," I relayed as I got down to look underneath the bed. "I'll call you when I get back," I pulled out my shoes and slipped them on as I headed out the door and to the front desk.
"Oh, good you're here," Penny praised as she approached me, making her way around the counter. "Let's go!"
"So, what's the palace like?" I asked as we drove down the almost empty highway. "Who are the royals?"
"Whoa," Penny laughed. "First thing, the royals, the King, Killian English became king about five months ago. His father passed away from the great battle, O'fin Shore, between Lycans and Dawn Creators."
"Dawn Creators?" I furrowed my eyebrows trying to keep my eyes on the road.
"Yes, Dawn Creators," She stated matter-of-factly, "They are the first vampires, like lycans are the first werewolves. They are older, superior, stronger, well everything vampires are just times ten, like that of lycans," Penny glanced over to me as she tilted her head and scrunched up her face. "Were you not taught any of this in school?"
"No, we don't know about any of this stuff," I shrugged trying to hide my embarrassment. How could we be so sheltered to not know about our history, or current events for that matter? What is going on in my old pack? Thank Goddess she didn't pressure me for more information because honestly, I had none to give.
"Weird," She replied as she eyed me before pointing out a turn I had to take. "Well, you don't have to listen to me ramble, we can take the toured guide,"
"Great!" I beamed as I parked the car and walked up to the mansion, where a group had already started to gather.
"Good Morning my lovelies!" Came the voice of an older plump woman with a much younger blonde quick on her heels. "I'm Mrs. Mavis, Charlene Mavis and this is my daughter, Mara Mavis, she will be taking over all the tours from now on. This will be my last tour, so let's make it special shall we?" Charlene clapped her hands together as the crowd suddenly broke out in sully howls. "Oh none of that, come on lovelies, let's see what we have through these beautiful timeless oak doors!"
"Oh no, Mrs. Mavis is leaving, well I'm glad we came when we did, I'd hate a tour given by Mara," Penny stated as we walked behind an elderly couple.
"You don't like her?" I chuckled as we were the last to enter the stone mansion.
"Absolutely not, she's horrible, Mara Mavis is two years older than me, but that didn't stop her from bullying me or almost everyone else in school. She made a mistake though, she told everyone that she was engaged to King Killian, well he was Prince Killian at the time, and at first, we all believed her. That is until my cousin Tessa came to school and told her in front of everyone that it wasn't true,"
"How did she know?" I wondered, I love gossip but this girl was starting to remind me of another certain bully back home.
"My Aunt Tanya works here, she's the cook for the tours," Penny smiled as we continued walking through a huge room with large paintings on the walls from past monarchs. "So, Tessa came here and did some digging or so she said, and came to school to call her out. We didn't see Mara for four days, then she came back as if nothing happened," Penny shrugged her shoulders as we made our way through a long corridor.
"Sounds like a girl I know, Jayla Stewert," I began as we walked a little slower from the group. "I had finally gotten to be with my long-time crush, Karter Jenkings, and he had promised to take me to prom. But what I didn't know was that Jayla's parents were in discussion with Karter's parents that they were supposed to be together. Well, long story short, Jayla began bullying me years prior, and when she found out Karter liked me, it got worse. So much worse that my old pack is passing a law now to where anyone who isn't mates can be, and parents can even choose their children's mate until they are eighteen,"
"That's insane, hey, don't hate me, but we lost the others, I really want to finish the tour," Penny replied as she shuffled off toward the rest of the group.
"That's Nefermyer, he was king before Jessep," Came a deep voice from beside me. "And your old pack can't do that, it has to be passed through the courts and get approved by the King," He turned to face me and that was when something hit me like a ton of bricks, it was as if alarm bells were going off in my head. "Mate," He whispered and it was like a lullaby being sung from his lips.
"Mate," I countered as if I no longer had control of my own body, I couldn't stop the words as they leap from my mouth. I felt warm, but yet cold, light-headed, but yet grounded, empty but yet full. Everything, opposite at the same time, was this it? Did I truly find my mate?
"You're my mate... you..." He stretched an arm toward my face and I couldn't help but close my eyes and lean into his embrace. "So beautiful, I can't believe I found you,"
"Sir, there you are," Another man walked into the long corridor we were standing in. I couldn't look at the man all I could do was be there at that moment with the one I thought didn't exist. I couldn't open my eyes, all I could do was continue leaning into his touch. "Sir," The man said once more a bit louder than before as he cleared his throat.
"Gibbons!" My mate spoke up as he turned around grabbing my hand. "My mate," He held up my arm, his mocha-glossed skin overpowered my ivory one, and his beautiful tan lips were expanded with an unwavering smile.
"Sir?" The man questioned as he tilted his head.
