"This is preposterous!" Constance, the Queen Mother, yelled out amongst the staff at her son. "It has never been, no royal has ever been mated to a commoner. It simply isn't done, if need be we will mate you properly,"
"Mother, I have listened to you for years, but I have finally found my mate. I will not squander this, she is mine!" Killian roared as he threw open the door and stormed down the stairs.
"She can not be Queen!" His Mother screamed over the balcony as she followed behind him.
"You can't be here," Came a voice from around the corner of the rose garden. "I saw you with Penelope Roper, looks like you snuck away trying to sneak a peek at the King?" Mara teased as she made her way closer to Euphemia.
"No, I'm..." I began as I sat on the concrete bench to the left of me.
"You're what?" Mara taunted as she crept closer. "I know girls like you, you're trying everything possible to insert yourself closer to King Killian. Well, I've got news for you, the position will soon be filled, he hasn't found his mate and I'm this close to getting him," She held up her fingers and pinched them closely together as she stared me down.
"Ahh, there you are mate, I was wondering where you went off to," Killian opened his arms as my heart leaped at the sight of him. He grabbed me and squeezed tightly so I could inhale his scent of mint and wood. "Oh, Ms. Mavis I didn't see you there, how are things in the tourism department?"
"Mate?" Mara asked as her bright blue eyes got more expansive.
"Oh, yes, this is Euphemia Winters, my mate I met her today!" Killian smiled proudly as he moved to the side of me, slipping his arm behind my back.
"I... I have to go, good day your Majesty," Mara quickly bowed as she lowered her head before scurrying off behind the rose garden.
"She seemed a little off today, no matter," Killian shrugged as he grabbed my hand heading us out of the rose garden. "I want to know everything about you, Phemie, I want to never part from you, from this day forward. I thought I'd never find you, to be honest, I've almost given up hope, thirty years but here you are," He squeezed my hand and smiled brightly, "I am talking too much, aren't I? I tend to do that when I'm excited or really nervous,"
"I tend to be quiet when I'm nervous," I chuckled as I squeezed his hand in reassurance as we walked to my car.
"We are quite the pair, I will never stop talking and you will never talk," He let out a hardy laugh as we reached my car. "No, that sounded harsh, I profusely apologize, I did not mean it that way,"
"Phemie, oh thank Goddess, I thought you left me," Penny ran over before stopping abruptly. "Oh, my Goddess, your Majesty!" She bowed her head low to the ground as she tried to yank on my shirt. "That's King Killian, what are you doing? Bow your head he's royalty,"
"She doesn't need to bow to me, she's my equal, my mate," Killian responded with a light laugh. "Who's this?"
"Mate?!" Penny screeched, "Oh my Goddess seriously? This is so great, you came here to get away from your old pack and who would have thought that you'd find your mate, and he would be the King!"
"This is Penelope Roper, she's the daughter of the owners of the hotel I'm staying in," I smiled as I walked over to Penny and held her shoulders to try and get her to stop jumping up and down.
"I can't believe you will be the next Queen, when will you two marry? Can I be at the wedding? Will you be coming to the hotel?" Penny asked as she moved closer to Killian, her eyes glossing over.
"Sir, your mother is asking for you," Gibbons called out, as he stood by the entrance to the mansion. He was everything a butler should be, he dressed in a plain black and white uniform with matching black shoes. His nose was rather large and his eyes were a beady obsidian color, his hair was salt-and-pepper and his skin was almost gray.
"Gibbons, tell my mother I'm with my mate, I will see her presently," King Killian breathed out as he hung his head low watching Gibbons return back inside to inform Killian's overbearing Mother. "Come, let's away, we can pick up your belongings and you can move in here with me. I promise from this day forward I never want to part from you, my Dear Phemie, I want to make you my Queen," He grabbed me up and held me close to him as I began melting into his arms I heard the awes from Penny and I couldn't help but smile. I want, no, I must know everything about this man, my mate, the King, my own Mr. Lycan.
"Sir, the Queen Mother is very adamant about you seeing her at this moment," Gibbons said as he stood just outside the doorway on the marble slab.
"Gibbons, I will see her presently," Killian emphasized as he enunciated each word turning toward the older man standing still with his nose in the air. "I apologize for this my sweet mate, and of course to you, Ms. Penny. Mother can be quite persistent, and given that I told her I found my mate well, she is even more so," He took my hand and kissed it before looking at my car. "We shall take one of mine, I'll call for Fitz,"
"No, that's okay, we can take my Jeep, I love it," I stated as I opened my door and watched Penny climb inside to the backseat.
"Killian!" The Queen Mother, Constance yelled out from the entranceway. "Presently, no I shall speak with you now, son,"
