Robins MusicWhere it started: Robin didn't grow up with many friends, and was always considered odd in school. her only real friend growing up was music. the same grandmother that paid for her schooling, paid for private piano and voice lessons for Robin growing up. She spent her childhood writing music in secret.
Types of music: When robin was in school the main type of music she performed was classical voice or classical piano. She is a soprano. Her favorite aria she ever sang was Casta Diva from the opera Norma
She also takes pride in her piano skills and she uses them for evil by writing unnecessarily difficult arrangements of kpop songs
She's written a lot of music in her life, ranging from kpop, rnb, rap, and more classically inclined music. Such as choral pieces, concertos, and two symphonies she wrote for her masters and doctorate. her main source of income comes from her work at JYP (which she does not currently get paid fairly for). She has written at least one song for almost every group under JYP, including Stray Kids, but all the music she gave them were given as gifts (She gave Chan a song for his birthday, wrote Hyunjin a song when he was feeling down ect.). A lot of the music she has given to Stray Kids they have chosen to keep private, at least for now. the songs that get rejected by JYP she either keeps for herself or sells to other companies.
She doesn't end up writing a lot of lyrics for her songs for JYP, she often just gives tracks. She is fluent in Korean, but sometimes has a hard time expressing her feelings poetically in the language. However, since she is a music theory nerd and she's always been attracted to slightly weirder more experimental music. Even when she is writing for idol groups she likes to write music that musicians can appreciate, either throwing in complex rhythms or chromatic melodies. She also likes to write in church modes, her favorites for idol music are Dorian and Phrygian.
Robins Friends?
Stray Kids: They were Robins first ever long term friends, and now, something more?
College friends: Robin hasn't kept up with many people from college, most of them consider her a sell out for writing idol music. However she still occasionally texts one girl from school who was getting her masters of music education, Choi Eunji. Maybe we will see more of her later?
JYP idols: Robin finds it awkward and hard to hang out with the other idols at JYP, not because they aren't kind or have no interest, purely because Robin has trouble separating work and life. She sees their relationship as a work relationship and its hard for her to see it as anything else. it was hard enough for her to keep being friends with stray kids once she started teaching their voice lessons. Itzy's Chaeryeong has made several attempts at friendship that Robin has clumsily handled. Maybe we will see more of their friendship?
Other idols: For the most part she doesn't interact with other idols, theres never any need too. However, she does occasionally text Seventeen's Woozi about songwriting, producing or the like. He originally got in contact with her to ask if he could sample part of one of her piano preludes for a B-side track, she did him one better and recorded it in studio for him.
the next chapter will be business as usual :) thanks for indulging me
