This chapter is dedicated to my best friend. Happy Birthday, lovely. 🐞
This book is here because of you.S A D I E
'So?' I say, nervously, turning around. Jax looks up from his phone and grins, giving me the thumbs up.
'If I was into women, you would so be my type.' Aleena remarks from her position sprawled on my bed. 'Lucas is one lucky man.'
I blush furiously and turn back to the mirror. I'm wearing my sparkly white dress (with a diamond waist), paired with a pair of shiny white heels that I can barely walk in. My long hair, which almost reaches my waist now, is left in elegant natural waves. Joanna kept the makeup to a minimum, a more natural look.
My confidence in this outfit skyrockets.
For the first time, I feel beautiful.
Joanna claps her hands, squealing. 'Perfect!'
'Group picture!' Aleena yells, all of us crowding around Jaxon, and pulling funny faces.
'Am I not invited?' Matheo asks, appearing at the door of my bedroom.
Joanna's eyes widen and she grins, running over and enveloping her boyfriend in a hug.
After a long time of excessive flirting, dates, and petty arguments, Matheo finally asked Anna to be his girlfriend yesterday.
'Theo, what are you doing here?' I ask, also giving him a hug. Jax grumbles.
'Taking you, m'lady, to the ball.' He says, in a posh accent, bowing slightly. 'Your carriage awaits.' He adds, waving his hand aggressively.
We all laugh, except Jax, who's lips twitch, but he quickly goes back to grumbling. Aleena places a kiss to his cheek, and he immediately lights up.
After saying goodbye, Matheo leads me down the stairs, and I almost tumble over when he pushes me jokingly, but he grasps my forearm before I fall.
I glare. 'I was going to die!'
He rolls his eyes. 'Why are you all so dramatic?'
'Look who's talking...'
Mom spots me and immediately gasps. 'Oh! Say, you look like a princess. Turn around, lemme see!' I give her a little twirl, and she smiles. 'You look majestic, my love, Lucas will love it.' She nods, approvingly.
A huge weight was lifted off my chest when I told Mom about Lucas, and all this time, she's been nothing but supportive, agreeing with me to keep this away from Dad.
The atmosphere in the house is... tense. He doesn't speak to Mom or I. Just stays locked up in his office all day, weeks can pass and I don't see him. At least, I'm back at my own house though.
'Mom!' I say, when she starts tearing up. 'Don't cry!'
'I have to! You're so grown up!' She launches herself at me, hugging me tightly. 'I love you, my Sadie.'
'I love you too, Mumma.' I say, watching her eyes light up.

'Holy guacamole.' I state, my jaw dropping open. The party is held at a hotel, but not any hotel. The building is made of black glass, glistening in the moonlight. I can see rows and rows of cars lined in front of it. Matheo chuckles at my expression.
'You might want to close your mouth, Sadie. You're Lucas Edwards' girlfriend, you should be used to seeing rich people stuff.'
'Oh, shut it, you snob.' I say, punching his hand lightly, but he just continues laughing.
