"So, who is to be held responsible for the loss in Sokovia?" A news reporter asked.
I placed my hand on Wanda's knee under the table and gave it a gentle squeeze, earning a small smile that I could see out of the corner of my eye.
"Hydra," Steve answered, "we went to aid the survival of Sokovia but obviously, in the wreck, many lives were lost. The Avengers worked hard to save as many as we could, but we could not help everyone."
"And Hydra is?" the reporter asked.
"A scientist organisation which started in Nazi Germany," he answered, "it grew way beyond anyone's imagination."
"How is Wanda Maximoff one of the only hundred survivors from the battle of her city?" he pushed.
Steve went to open his mouth, but Wanda got there first.
"I lost people too," she replied, "my twin brother was killed during the battle, and I only survived because of the help of the Avengers."
"It has nothing to do with your enhanced abilities?" he said.
Wanda cleared her throat and looked down, "I didn't ask for this," she said.
"I think that's enough for today," Steve spoke directly after, cutting off any more questions and standing up, moving aside so Wanda and I could walk off first.
When we got out of the shot of everyone around us, Steve pulled us both into a hug.
"I hate reporters," I greened, pulling away and wrapping my arm around Wanda's waist.
She nodded in agreement and wiped her cheeks.
"Hey," I sighed, cupping her cheeks so she would look at me, "Wanda- um, Steve?"
He smiled and nodded.
"Why don't you start the jet? We'll be there in a second," I encouraged him.
He nodded slowly and then the penny dropped, "ohhhh okay, I'll see you in a minute," he smiled, walking off happily.
Wanda giggled slightly and sniffled, looking down at the floor.
"Wanda," I whispered, rubbing my thumbs on her cheeks.
She picked her head up and looked me in the eyes.
"They don't know what they're talking about," I told her.
She nodded, "they're not wrong though ... my abilities- Pietro's abilities, they're what got him killed."
I shook my head quickly, "I was there. It wasn't his fault; it wasn't any of our faults. He sacrificed his life to protect someone he barely knew ... he's a hero Wands."
"Can we go home please," she replied.
I nodded and followed her as we joined Steve on the jet, leading us back to the tower. Wanda sat down next to me and took a deep breath, leaning her head on my shoulder and linking our fingers together.
"Y/N?" she asked.
I hummed.
"What is this? Us? Is there an us?" she finished, picking her head up to look at me.
"What do you want it to be?" I asked her.
She shook her head, "I don't know."
I thought for a moment and kissed her head, "no labels, no pressure, just see how it goes?"
She nodded, "I would like that. Are we telling the team?"
I shook my head quickly, "not yet."
"Okay," she whispered, her breathing slowing down as she drifted off to sleep.
