Although Jaylen wasn't one to celebrate Fourth of July, it was his first one with Kavari. He wanted it to be special, almost as if it was a big gift from the universe. Today they'd be having a cookout that consisted of some of Kavari's family members.

Jaylen felt a bit guilty, seeing how he couldn't remember anyone's name. Everyone else remembered his, it made him feel a little bit more important.

He headed to the grill for his second plate, he couldn't lie to himself or anyone else; Senior knew how to cook. He preferred the food his mom cooked; Wonton soup, and his favorite: Chinese hotpot. But for now, he'll take barbecue chicken and burgers.

"It's hittin, huh?" Junior asked him as he prepared what seemed to be his fifth plate. Jaylen couldn't always understand Kavari's slang, he'd just use context clues and figure it out.

"Is it that obvious?" Jaylen chuckles out. Before Kavari can respond, he's hit on the back of his head.
"Boy, save some of the food for the kids!" Senior states as Kavari rubs his head quickly.

Jaylen tried his best to sustain his laughter, but it immediately broke as Kavari muttered "fuck them kids."

"You can eat off my plate. I probably won't even finish all this." Jaylen said as he grabbed two pieces of chicken, three barbecued ribs for Kavari, and a scoop of macaroni n cheese.

"Thanks, at least I know someone will make sure I won't starve." Kavari says with a chuckle.
Jaylen laughed at his dramatic response. "You had like, fifty thousand plates of food Vari." It was an exaggeration, but it felt needed.

"A nigga gotta eat." Can't argue with that. Jaylen simply let out a laugh. He felt a strong gaze on him, it made him feel a bit insecure.

"Why are you staring at me?"

"You're just, so pretty." Kavari says letting out a sigh, eyeing Jaylen. Admiring his beauty, Jaylen shrunk underneath his gaze. If it wasn't for Kavari's family being around, he'd definitely kiss Jaylen.

"You wanna go watch the fireworks tonight?" Jaylen asked, quickly trying to change the subject. He liked fireworks, they always looked beautiful to him. He'd watch from his bedroom window in Utah, he liked how the popping sound would drown out the voices of his parents arguing.

"Yeah, but I'd just be watching you."

"Why?" Jaylen was confused. Who wouldn't want to watch fireworks?

"Cause you're even more beautiful."
Jaylen felt his heart somewhat skip a beat.

Jaylen had made up his mind.

He had definitely made up his mind, this Fourth of July definitely felt like a big gift from the universe.
