Jaylen (Jay) Soo POV:
The air was thick. It was dead silent. My mom had a poker face. I couldn't tell if she was disappointed or disgusted. I wanted to speak but it felt as if my throat closed.
I glanced over to Vari, his face was stone cold. I on the other hand, had worry written over my face. I felt nauseous. I needed to throw up. We got caught up. And now we're probably going to get disowned.
Oh my gosh if Senior finds out. He'll kill us.
My mom let out a heavy sigh. "Let's sit down for this." She says heading to the dinning room.
We're fucked. She'll tell Senior. And then we're all fucked. She'll be fucked because she caught us. We'll be ticked because we got caught.
How is Kavari so calm right now? He hasn't said a word. I've tried to make eye contact with him, yet he won't meet my eyes.
As we sit down at the table, I notice my mom's eye swell with tears. "Mom, please. Don't be sad." I say with a sigh. I hate to see my mom cry. I used to cry with her when I was younger.
"I-I'm not." She clears her throat wiping her face. She takes a shaky breathe. "You two can't ever do that in the open ever again. Do you understand? What if it was Senior and not me?" Kavari and I nod our head's 'yes'. She's right. That was so stupid to do. We were just caught up in the moment.
I shifted uncomfortably in my chair. I'm scared.
"I already knew you both were.. messing around. The way you look and touch each other may seem normal to others, but a mother knows her child." She says looking at me. My eyes widen with surprise. She knew? Well she had already told me she knew something. But I didn't actually think she was aware of Kavari and I.
I should've been more careful.
"Are you gonna tell my dad?" Kavari asks. His voice sounds calm.
Too calm.
As if he's already prepared himself for the worse.
"No, no, I wouldn't do that to you two. You weren't ready to tell me, so how would you be ready to tell him? Jiang, Ni ài tā ma?"
I was surprised to hear my mom use her Chinese. It's been a long time. The more she uses that name, the more I grow towards it. Kavari looks just as confused as I am. Maybe because he didn't know my name was Jiang. Or because he didn't know what my mom said.
"I-"
"In Chinese." She says cutting me off.
"Wǒ zhèngzài chéngzhǎng." I say almost perfectly. I've always thought my Korean was better than my Chinese. Which proves my point now. I cringed at how hard it was for me to respond. My mom seemed to understand well.
