29 November: Ministry of Magic

With a brand new coat, which Sirius insisted on, and flowers in his hands, Remus was ready, not really, to meet Andromeda and Edward Tonks. To say that he was nervous would be an understatement. He was scared, even though last night was spent getting advice on this from his two best friends.

Sirius told him everything not to do or say in front of your girlfriend's family, while James gave him tips on how to impress them. But his case is very different from those two. Unlike Sirius's, Nymphdora's parents are not royalty, and like James, he is not rich or age appropriate for her.

This is a bad idea. He thought and turned to leave.

Right on time, Tonks left the office, and saw him walking away. "Remus!" She called and walked over to him.

Remus turned and smiled nervously.

"You were going to chicken out, weren't you?" She asked.

"No... I was just pacing, waiting for you." He lied.

"Sure, you were." She saw right through him. "And you look great." She kissed his cheek. "They are going to love you."

"How did it go when you told them about us?" He asked as they made their way out of the ministry.

"I wouldn't say great, but..." she trailed off.

"What?" Remus asked.

"Remember we got into that argument over you not being good enough for me?" She asked.

"I still stand by that." He solemnly said. Though they are now together, Remus still gets these little episodes where he starts to panic right near full moons and expects everything to spiral out. But Tonks handles everything well and, just as the full moon is over, Remus is back to his old self.

Tonks rolled her eyes. "So I was really sad, and mom and dad saw that and asked me, so I told them."

"We just want to know if everything's alright." Andromeda had insisted over the breakfast table when they couldn't take her sad face anymore.

"Come on, we are your parents. We want to help, that's all." Ted added, and finally Tonks spoke.

"What would you do-" she started, setting her fork down. "What would you do if you loved someone so much you'd give your life away for them?"

"And this person doesn't love you back?" Ted interrupted.

"No. He loves me. He's just so bloody selfless."

Ted raised an eyebrow but refrained from commenting.

"He says he's too poor and too old, and too dangerous, and he won't accept the fact that I love him for who he is and I don't care about any of that, and even after being together for months, he still doesn't understand."
