The day started rather late for Megan. She had slept in After staying up all night to finish a movie series, 'peaky Blinders' that had had her on a chock hold. She had a crush on John Shelby, needless to say, there was just something about him that she could not explain, only if he were real.
She walked out of her room, and made her way to the kitchen, to get herself something to eat. She was not expecting her aunt to be at home at that time of day, and her presence in the living room scared the living daylights out of her.
"Damn, kelis you scared me what the hell!" She said, stopping, her hand covering her face which was slowly being captured by an embarrassed smile.
"Why you so jumpy?" She replied, giggling. Her phone was in her hand, and her purse beside her, she was either almost leaving or had just gotten back. She stood up and followed her to the kitchen, her lips were puckered for a brief moment, as if she was nervous and Megan, noticed it,
"What's good? You seem nervous." She stated, pouring herself a glass of juice, after which she shifted her gaze to follow her flawless face.
" I just need to talk about something."
"What is it?dialed" she asked, slightly smiling trying to calm kelis down
"Umm, you know you're done with high school, and I would like to know what do you want to do, like do you want to get into college, or get job?"
"Really, that's what's got you shaking in your boots bro," she said playfully rolling her eyes, herself relieved that it wasn't that big of a deal.
"I don't want to seem pushy," she smiled. Kelis, was really happy that Megan was this easy and fun to have around. She just felt so drawn to her and promised herself to give her the best of the best, just like she would her own daughter. Megan made her believe in second chances, she was the child she could never have.
"I am drawn to acting and singing, and I would really to like to take on those as careers." She explained herself, still making some cheese eggs.
"Ok, ok," she teased, earning a laugh out of Megan.
"So college or work?"
"Work, college has never made sense to me." Megan replied shrugging her shoulders.
"All right fair enough, You have to put yourself out there, I mean I could talk to people but what would I show them, so use the internet." She advised and then left the kitchen, upon receiving a small ok from Megan, and a bite of her food.******
She jumped onto her bed, as she dialed her sister to FaceTime her. She picked up after a couple of rings, and she was in the car.
"Hey sister, " Sage's voice was full of excitement and joy.
"What's got you so bubbly?" She asked in a wide grin
"Idk, I'm just happy." She shrugged it off, before being cut off by Razaiah.
"She met a boy, he didn't even talk to her." She yelled out, she eyes still on the road as they drove home.
"Really sage, I thought you had better home training than that," Megan laughed out this sentence.
"First of all, I had no home training, second can't I just be happy," she said, striking more laughter from her cousin and her sister.
"What kind of a boy is he Razaiah?" Megan asked playfully ignoring sage
"The kind you don't want to play with," she said, giving sage a side eye. "But in all seriousness, he is bad news cuz,"
"You heard her, stay away from him sage." Megan said, now serious.
"I haven't even talked to the nigga," sage tried to reason with them both, this decision for some reason clogging her throat.
"He ain't even a brother," Razaiah added just for a laugh.
"Damn sage, a white boy got you looking dumb and shit," Megan teased, making them except sage hysterical.
"Y'all doing too much," sage said defensively, "please let's change the subject."
"Y'all guess what?" Megan said, doing exactly as her sister said, "I ain't going to college."
"What do you mean?" Razaiah asked,
"Kelis is not forcing me to go, she said it was my call." She informed, feeling so proud and fulfilled.
"Good for you shortie," Sage smiled, happy that she would get what she had always dreamt of. It's funny, how while others' goal of life was to get into college she just dreamt of not having to go. She thought that there was much more to life than just that.
They talked for the rest of the ride home, but even among the light hearted jokes that were thrown here and there did not manage to lift her heart from the sag it had just gotten from her cousin's comments about that handsome guy, that had apparently, in a matter of seconds of being him walk in, and locking eyes with her, had her in a lock of infatuation.
"Listen, I know what I'm talking about when I say you should stay away from Keith." Razaiah mentioned as they pulled up in their driveway.
"Keith," she whispered finding his name pretty rolling out of her lips. Keith was his name, she smiled that she even got his name before he got hers, if he even will.
"That boy don done some voodoo on your ass," Razaiah said, after she had just weirdly whispered out his name, and smiled.
"Well its a blessing," Sage said and snorted as she grabbed her tote and got out of the car.
Razaiah sighed genuinely concerned about her cousin. She was like a newborn baby to this world, so naive and heart bussing with love and believed what she saw. She hated to be the one to hug her on her first heart break, she didn't want to take that first lesson away from her, but shielding her felt better to her, and she had the perfect plan in head, as she called a friend, Darrel Carter, captain of the basketball team, valedictorian, good looks, nice long curls and a great smile and among all he was nice, he was a true friend. This was the opposite of Keith, captain of the lacrosse team, biggest man whore and a mean personality that he knew how to hide under his nice face and smooth words.
She wasn't going to let that boy ruin her cousin, she was determined to protect her, and each ring was an added to her determination.
"Hey darrel..."
