CHAPTER TEN
"Why you do you seem so tense?" Kelis asked Megan who was sat on the passenger seat as she drove.
"I don't know, I'm just not really good with new people." Megan explained, adjusting her beige blazer which was over a small, pretty white dress.
"Don't worry, you'll be fine." She encouraged, truly understanding how her niece felt. She knew her friends could be overwhelming, especially since none of them in the friend group had kids, so Megan would be like the group daughter.
Once the got to the restaurant, her door was opened by a valet, whom kelis gave the keys to the Rolls-Royce to go park, the restaurant was bright and lively. It had a lot of green from the plants that were beautifully spread out through the place. She could hear The conversations and laughter  amongst the clinking of the cutlery and crockery, along with some jazz music, added to the relaxed and laid-back aura of the place. It wasn't full, or super busy, which was great for Megan who appreciated the fact.
Kelis lead her to the farthest end of the restaurant where three beautiful black ladies were sat, dressed so elegantly and their smiles so vibrant.
"Kelis, Finally," One of them said when they noticed the both of them.
"Why do you always have to be late?" The other spoke, then sipped her dirty martini. "Don't follow in your aunts footsteps Megan dear." She added, making the ladies giggle.
"Chill out rosey, I'm here now, aren't I?" Kelis Said, pulling out her own chair then sat down , after giving each of the ladies a hug.
"Oh hi, Megan," the third said, ignoring the blabber of the others as she hugged her, and the two followed suit.
"You look so good," rosey said, seeming so very proud of her. They were all over her like some breathtaking piece of art in a gallery. She was blushing too hard. Being in the spotlight of any sorts wasn't her favourite thing.
"Y'all do to much." Kelis who was initially sat down, stood up to rescue the poor girl.
They finally sat down and ate talked in (the conversations with Mainly  centred around Megan's  singing and her Instagram popularity) she warmed up to them and she could relate to them all who were self made brought up in pretty shitty family and had to fight for what they have. They promised that her fight wouldn't be as tough, because she had them to lean on at all times. To this, she had nothing to say, her sister in the back of her mind yelling. Would all this greatness come into her life if they were still alive? Maybe she was right the whole time. Maybe they were gone for the better of everything in their lives.
Sitting down and eating with this ladies opened her eyes and mind. She was more confident, now that she had these women behind her back. Kelis and rosey ran the world of business, while Kendra and margo were a lawyer and a neurosurgeon respectively.
While she wanted an unconventional career, these women supported the idea, promised to mention her name in big offices.
While this was lovely, and while she was touched her that her dream was coming true, it left in her stomach a pit of guilt. Why was it going to be so easy? And while most brave people could have turned the offer down, in bid to build themselves up, she just couldn't find it on herself. She was afraid of trying to work on and hold onto something that wasn't going to float. Just like with her parents marriage. The way she worked hard on it even when it was bound to go down in flames. The way she loved but still couldn't save it. Her heart couldn't do it all again.
"Look baby, having a little bit of help doesn't mean that you are not going to be self made, you are self made, the only little thing we are going to do is to make sure you are seen." Kelis Said, as if reading her thoughts out loud. She knew her a lot more than she knew. Since she saw her instagram page for the first time, she knew her, because she saw herself in her niece.
"Its just that people love a brand that came from nothing, while I'm grateful for all I had and all I have, I don't think i'll be relatable." She opened up, since her facial expressions couldn't hide anything from her aunt. She could not lift her face at this reality, but margo lifted it for her, with her  bend forefinger.
"Passion, true talent and a pure personality like yours is relatable. You are so down to earth, and as long as the industry doesn't change that, you will be fine."
"We are not saying that it going to be easy, it's not. But all the bumps on the road will be worth it." Kendra on the other hand, had her hand on top of Megan's trying to provide moral support.
She was simply blessed to have all four of them in her life, and the timing couldn't be anymore perfect.
