Winston knew the moment something had happened. He sensed Bailey use his strength through the mark. In a panic, he ran as fast as he could back to the village, only to find most of it under rushing water. Males were swimming and running everywhere, trying to get their cubs and females to higher ground. But he couldn't see any of his own family members.
He focused on his connection with Bailey and it felt far away, like she had traveled tens of miles in the couple hours that he had been gone. Fear made his blood run cold. If she had been caught up in the flood, she would have continued to be carried away from him and who knows how long she would manage to stay alive.
He wasted no time. Following the pull of their bond and the direction of the water, he began his frantic search for his mate and their cub.

A surge of water had pulled Harvey under and tried to fill his lungs. When he finally resurfaced, he saw cliffs on either side. The tide had pushed him to the left path and away from his mate and cub. The rapids were overpowering, and it was all he could do to push himself back to the surface for air time and time again. It beat him against the rocks and threw him against the cliffs like a feather in a windstorm.
Every time the water pushed him close enough, He clawed at the cliffs seeking purchase. The attempts tore his paws into shreds. It wasn't until he had drifted miles from the village that the force of the water decreased enough for him to climb his way out.
Battered and exhausted, Harvey dragged himself to safety. He lay collapsed on a plateau, coughing the water out of his lungs and simultaneously trying to fill them again with air. He could hardly stand. His legs felt boneless, and he was bleeding from innumerable wounds. But even still, he did not allow himself to rest for long.
His mate and cub were being taken further and further from him by nature's wrath. He needed to reach them before she was too far to sense. Before it was too late.

Note from the author-
Hello! Thank you all for having read up until this point. I hope you are enjoying Bailey's story. I will continue trying to update at least one chapter a day (even if they are short). I am open to constructive criticism as I someday wish to publish my own original novel.
I apologize for any grammatical errors. Please point them out, especially if they distract from your reading enjoyment.
I will be introducing some new characters and bringing back some old ones. If a character feels way too different from the original novel, please let me know so I can adjust scenes and conversations as needed. I wish to pay homage to the original author and her creations while I write Bailey's story.
Your comments have been a huge driving force in keeping me going. Thank you all so much for your support.
With lots of love,
KT
