"Thank you, Lance." I said as he laid me on the soft mattress.
He gave me a soft, almost wistful smile before poking his head out the door and ordering the closest guard to get cotton, wash water, soap and extra furs in black colors. Then he came back over to me and wrapped me up in a hug.
"Bailey," He half growled half whined. "You smell so good. I would take you right here and now if there wasn't a chance of you getting pregnant."
I pulled away to see his regretful smile, "I understand, love. What do you need?"
He looked up to think over his options, "I'm going to go on a little vacation for the next couple weeks. Maybe take my frustrations out on some colossus or something." He looked at me and plugged his nose, "I can't stay near you. I'll lose my mind."
I nodded, "It's what we agreed. Don't get into too much trouble."
He scoffed, "Those are my words. You stay here. Do not leave the tiger's side, not for anything."
"I'll be fine. And when you get back, I'll be sure to welcome you properly." I gave a little seductive wink.
He chuckled. "I look forward to it."
Then the door burst open and a frantic looking Winston ran in. He stopped the minute he smelled me and his pupils took over his irises. "It's true. You've started your estrus." A mixture of happiness, wonder and worry etched lines in his face.
I giggled a little. Though he hadn't said anything, I knew Winston wanted cubs of his own. We had all agreed ahead of time that if I went into heat, it would be Winston's right to mate. He was a great papa to Kit, but now was his chance to give Kit a younger sibling. I could see him trying to hold back his excitement.
"It will be a few days before the bleeding stops. You'll have to wait until then." I reminded
He nodded, "Yes. I know. Does it hurt? Do you need anything? Should I get your leopard?"
Now that he mentioned it, it did feel a bit uncomfortable but nothing like menses. I could expect bleeding, swelling, a little irritation and a little cramping for the next few days, but nothing too horrible. What came after was what was hard to deal with. The uncontrollable, insatiable urge to mate, and frequently. I would lose my mind with it, just as the males did when they smelled a female in heat.
"I'm fine for now. I just need you to stay with me." I reassured him.
He immediately plopped down and brought me into his lap. "I wont leave your side."
"Good." Said Lance as he stood up. "I'll see you in a couple weeks then." Then he leaned down to kiss me and walked out the door.
I would miss him but I understood him. Better to be far away from temptation when it led you to something you'd regret. Besides, I could always do something life threatening and call him back to me. I touched his mark around my neck, hoping my feelings of love reached him.
I snuggled into Winston's arms but word got around fast. Soon, Harvey and Shuu were there. Harvey, to make sure I had all the herbs and cotton I would need to be comfortable, and Shuu to take over for the other guards. He wouldn't let someone who wasn't my mate anywhere in smelling distance.
With preparations complete, my week plus of comfortable imprisonment began.

When Oliver finally regained his senses, he was still pinned under Tristan. He stopped struggling and a sense of overwhelming shame colored his neck bright red.
"If you've remembered your name, I'll let you up." Said the dark fox.
"Oliver." Oliver mumbled into the dirt, partly wanting to stay there and dig himself a hole to hide in.
"Good lad. First time smelling a female that wasn't your mum?" Tristan asked as he slowly got up from pinning the wolf.
Oliver nodded, face still hidden.
"I wish I could say it gets easier, but it doesn't. You just have to get stronger." Tristan grabbed Oliver by the shoulder and pulled him up into a sitting position. Unfortunately, the position made it very obvious his physiological reactions hadn't calmed down. "Uh hum," Tristan coughed a little. "You might want to go find a nice cool place down river and um... 'handle' your problem. You'll feel better after."
Oliver looked like he wanted to cry. "She's going to hate me now, isn't she?" He bit his lip. "She'll tell me to go back home."
Tristan ran a hand through his thick ponytail, detangling the ends. "Other females might. But the Queen is a little different. I haven't known her long enough to know exactly what she'll do but from what I've see so far, she cares for you wolf. I'd be surprised if she sends ye away." He patted Oliver's shaggy black hair. "Don't worry about things that haven't happened yet. Now go on. I need to explain a bit of what happened to our prince here."
Kit, who had been waiting ever so patiently was looking between the two, utterly perplexed as to why they had gone from a happy laughing moment to a stiflingly serious one. Oliver's gold red-rimmed eyes looked at the cub and he gave him an apologetic smile. Playing would have to happen another day. He patted the prince on the head and left for that cold water.
Tristan then proceeded to do a very, very basic birds and bees explanation and let the prince know that if they were lucky, they'd get a younger sibling to play with when the hot season came.
