i was never ready (so i watch you go)

Now it was a waiting game, the three sat and stared, feet bouncing. The sight of Shoupe and two other police officers behind him all made them jump up out of their seats, they had absolutely no clue what to expect with sending their friends out there, they shouldn't be running like this.

All three of them stood in front of Shoupe, "Did you find him" Pope said, breaking the ice, Shoupe shook his head, in fact, Kiara couldn't even tell if he did, she knew when he confirmed it saying, "No." Pope looked at Kie, she had hope in her eyes, "So they got away" She looked at JJ and then looked back at Shoupe, he looked down, "We, uh... we lost them" Pope stared blankly, "I'm sorry" Shoupe continued, "You lost them?" Pope stepped forward,  Kie's heart felt like it was thrown on the ground and stomped on a thousand times, JJ looked at the ground, Pope's anger growing "What do you mean you lost them? Li- Like they're gone? W-What are you talking about?" Shoupe looked back up from the spot he was staring at "They took an open boat, into a tropical depression Pope..." Kie still staring at Shoupe, her face now scrunched up, "So their dead?" Shoupe looked at Kiara, "We don't know" that was it, the glass shattered, not a single fragment of hope, it all meant nothing to them, "You drove them straight through the storm man!" JJ yelled, "Are you kidding me?! Come here!" JJ sprung forward, "JJ stop!" Kiara hated how weak her voice sounded, she felt like there was nothing in her, "Hey, Hey JJ...." she pulled him away from plunging at Shoupe again and wrapped her arms around his shoulders, "Hey...." Kie was sobbing now, he was sobbing into her neck, Kie opened her arm for Pope to join the hug, all of them, three heads touching, tears were dropping onto to everyone's skin and no one had no idea who's breath was who, but in that moment they all knew they had each other.

"Kie, come on honey lets get you home" Anna tugged on her arm, Kiara spun her head around looking at JJ walking towards his bike, "Wait- wait mom" Anna and Mike stopped to look at her, "Please let me just see where JJ is staying tonight, I just want to make sure he's going to be ok" Her parents looked at each other, "Yeah.... yeah ok hon, make it quick ok" she nodded her head and ran over to JJ, It was still raining but not as heavy as 10 minutes before, "Hey! HEY! JJ!" JJ was about to get on his bike spinning his head towards the person calling his name, Kie ran up so she was just in front of him, "Hey.... uh, where are you staying tonight" He sighed, "Uh.. probably crash at the shack, not-not my shack, cheatau shack" Kie let out a chuckle, "Yeah, yeah" she tucked her hair behind her ear, "Uh, just be safe ok?" She hated the idea of him being alone tonight, she would offer for him to stay at her place but she knows what her parents would say, he nodded, "Yeah, promise" she let out a breath and stood up on her tiptoes to wrap her arms around him, "KIARA!" she heard her mom yell out just as she has his embrace "hey, go" he said tapping her side, "I'll be fine" she nodded as she walked away, "hit me up later ok?" he saluted her with his two fingers and watched her get into her car with her parents, she looked out the window at him, he had gotten on his bike but was still looking at her, her face was lit up from all of the tent set ups, she smiled, he smiled back, he loved that smile, god he loved her.
