Selina's POV
"Selina dear. Wake up."My eyes flattered open. I remained still, watching the woman gazing at me. Queen Nova always has curious green eyes. But today, they appear kind if not full of sympathy. Oh yes! My loss. She must feel sorry for me. I acted like a mad woman when I was losing Adryan's baby.
I blame myself for it. If only I would have gone quietly. But then again Frances out something in the tea. She poisonedmy baby. I haven't seen her since. I wonder where she is. I want her to pay for it.
"I don't want to wake up." I told her. "I just want to sleep."
"You have to my dear. Adryan is only a few minutes away from the Rose Palace -"
"Adryan?" I sat up quickly with renewed strength. "Why is he coming here? Why? Did you tell him?"
"No! Of course not!" She exclaimed. "I did not ask him to come. If anything I was surprised when he called last night and said he's on his way. He said he wants to check on you."
"He hasn't spoken to me in a long time. Why does he suddenly want to check on me? What did you tell him about me?"
"Nothing. Absolutely nothing. But if you want to keep your secret, at least the one about the baby, then get out of bed and fix yourself up. The tragedy needs to vanish from your expression my dear."
"Fine."
They peeled away the blanket.
The last time I did this, I was shocked to see blood in my bed. I screamed out when I realized what had happened. I don't want to think about it but it's one of those things that is hard to forget.
"Your bath is ready Selina." Samira, my faithful friend smiled at me.
She and the queen helped me up. I feel weak. They took me to the bathroom and I settled into the soothing water. As Samira bathed me, the Queen kept looking at me. "I'm sorry about your loss. I don't know how you feel but I know you are strong enough to get through it."
"I wish I could share this pain with him. It's odd to think it but I believe he's the only one who can understand my pain. It was our baby."
"I agree. But perhaps, if you wait a little longer-"
"Why? Why should I wait to share my pain?"
"Because there's something bigger at play than the miscarriage. Samira, wait outside." Samira excused herself. "This is hard for you but you know we are at war with the crown. With the recent events, Adryan's army is need of weapons and man power. He needs to take over as much territory as he can. Since he already has Ebrium, he is looking to get Daa Haan. The reason I'm asking you to be quiet about the miscarriage is because of what will happen to your father should Adryan find out. The Duke may lose his life. For Daa Haan and the Navy to comply, your father plays a key role. Do you see my point? We need him alive."
Unfortunately, I see her point. I want Adryan to win this war against his father.
"Would Adryan kill my father?"
"Yes. In a heartbeat. He won't even think about it. So please, how about you keep it secret until it's the right time?"
"How am I supposed to bottle this when it hurts so much? I'll drown in silent pain Your Majesty. It's not fair." Tears slipped from my eyes.
She reached out and wiped them.
"You must wait because of the bigger picture. Think of the bigger picture Selina. If you are to get a second chance at being pregnant with his baby, don't you think he needs to stay alive? My murderous husband will kill Adryan if he remains weak."
