The group couldn't believe it. They had actually found the wreck of the Royal Merchant. They had smiles plastered on their faces. However, Pope had been moving the drone around for a while, and they were yet to see any traces of the gold.

Pope sighed, in defeat. "It's not there." "Look, just pull the drone out." John B replied. He looked out into the ocean, knowing they were too late. "Shit."

Pope tried to lift his spirits. "Look, we can do another pass. Recharge the battery and, go back down." John B knew it was a lost cause, as he ran his hand through his hair. JJ seemed to pick up on this. "Guys we've been through it three times, there's nothing there."

"Shut up." "You're not helping." Kie and Beca shouted at the boy. "What? It's true." JJ shot back.
"The gold could be buried. We don't know." Kie tried to convince them.

"He's right." Y/N spoke for the first time in a while. Kie looked at him, with a face saying 'seriously?' "If it was there, it would have been found on the metal detector, ok?" John B told them. "Somebody beat us to it."

The group all looked down, deflated. They were so close, but so far.

The group docked the boat, emotions at an all time low. Y/N just wanted to go home. His hopes of helping his mom, dead and buried.

"I'm gonna head home... I'll see you... at some point." He told them as he started walking off. Kie stopped him with her voice. "I can give you a ride home, if you want?" She asked, hopeful. He looked back at the group. JJ and John B were staring into space. Pope had been trying to qualm Beca's disappointment. Y/N smiled at that, know how the Heyward boy felt.

He looked back at Kie and smiled at her. "Sure, thanks." She smiled back before they both got in the car.

The drive was silent for a bit, until Kie broke it. "You think John B will be ok?" She asked him. He pondered her question for a second. "I think he'll be alright. I think we all knew it was somewhat a shot in the dark. He'll be fine." Y/N reassured her, she nodded in response.

"Are you ok? I know you wanted to help out your mom with your cut." He looked at her, before looking back down. "Like I said, it was a shot in the dark, we didn't lose anything. It's just, nothing changed." He said, slightly crestfallen.

Kie looked at him, to see he did look sad. "Look, if it helps, I could try and convince my dad to give you a job at The Wreck, then you'd be helping her out." He looked back up at her, the two locking eyes. He smiled at her. "Thanks, but she wouldn't allow it. I don't know why, but she is adamant that I won't work until high school's done. If I got the job she'd match down and demand that your dad fire me." She laughed at that, a noise Y/N had grown to love.

The rest of the drive was a comfortable silence. Kie eventually pulled up outside Y/N's house. "Thanks Kie." He smiled at her as he got out. He walked a few steps before he heard Kie. "You're going to the movie night, right?" She asked, hope laced in her voice.

Y/N turned back around and saw her. He didn't particularly want to go, he just couldn't bring himself to even slightly upset her. "Yeah, I'll see you there." She smiled brightly at him before driving off.

Y/N had met back up with the rest of the Pogues, minus John B. Kie and Beca had managed to convince JJ and Pope to come as well. They had started walking towards the crowd of people with chairs and snacks.
