Y/N had been kept in solitary confinement while being held in the Kildare County jail. The hierarchy didn't believe a cell was enough, so he was put in solitary, with a straight jacket so he couldn't try to escape.
He hadn't heard anything to do with his court date yet. Anytime the guards came to his cell it was either to drop his food on the floor in front of him, or to beat him up some more.
His healing factor was helping his recovery, but when every guard in the prison wants a piece of you, it's hard for it to take any real effect.
The next day, he and John B's initial hearing was to be held. They had put a muzzle on him as well, 'for protection' they said. John B was appalled when he saw him at first, given that he had only been put in an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs.
"Are you alright?" He asked on the ride over to the court. Y/N slowly turned his head towards his only friend right now. "I'm fin-" He got cut off by the guard escorting them hitting him in the stomach with a baton. Needless to say the van was very quiet after that.
The boys were escorted into the court house, receiving looks of disgust from the vast majority of the attendees. They did hear some gasps from the left side of the room. Y/N looked up to see his friends and mother looking at him, horrified. He would've smiled to try to ease their worries but they couldn't see his mouth.
The judge banged her gavel to gather everyone's attention. "John Booker Routledge, and Y/N McCoy. Pursuant to the North Carolina statute section 14, you are charged with murder in the first degree, with aggravated circumstances. If convicted, Mr. Routledge, the maximum sentence would be the death penalty."
The reaction from the crowd was immediate. Some happy for justice being served, other were utterly shocked at a 17 year old boy potentially being sentenced to death. The boys heard their friends calling for mercy for him, however the judge struck her gavel again, gaining quiet in the room.
"Mr. McCoy, on the other hand. If you are convicted, you will be transferred to the custody of Trask Industries, and will be held in their custody for as long as they see fit." She struck it again, and Y/N's fate was sealed.
Francesca and Kiara stood up with terrified looks on their faces. Sarah moved forward to try and talk to John B, but was turned away by the guards. Rebecca helped her out, as she was struggling to walk on her own.
Kiara stared at Y/N as he was shoved out of the room, back towards whatever hell he as being out through in that prison. She partly knew it was coming, and the fact that the police would do anything to convict him made it all the worse.
The crowd moving towards them forced them out of the courthouse. "Is this a joke? And who are those Trask people?" Rebecca asked as they descended the stairs. "I don't know but it can't be good. They're gonna kill 'em, guys. I know it." JJ lamented.
"I'm so sorry for what you and your family are going through." A rich looking man walking beside Ward began. "Thank God the system works and that freak's getting what he deserves."
Kiara had had it. She began to run at the man, only being stopped by JJ wrapping his arms around her to stop her. "Shut up you asshole!" The group in front of her turned to look back at her.
JJ put her down, and the man looked incredibly offended. "Excuse me?"
She looked utterly disgusted at the man. "Of course you think the system worked because it was made to protect you and people like you." She spat at him.
"They'll have their day in court. A jury will decide"
"They shouldn't even be in court!" She shouted. "You should, 'cause you're a murderer!" She said, pointing at Ward.
