Not many words were shared between the Pogues that night. No one knew what to say, or what to do.

Ward was gone. They should've been happy, or at the very least relieved. But seeing a man die, as despicable as he may be, is never easy. Sarah's absence from the group also hung over them.

"He deserved it, right?" JJ asked them the next morning, as they hung out at the dock. "Are you joking? Of course he deserved it." Kie responded.

John B and Y/N were down on the HMS, having been especially quiet.

"Never seen anyone blow themselves up like that." Pope said. "It's not a common occurrence." Rebecca added.

"Cross that one of the bucket list."

"JJ!" Kie reprimanded him, moving down towards the two boys. She sat beside her boyfriend and wrapped an arm around him. "You two okay?"

Y/N nodded, and leant down into her. "It's not me I'm worried about." John B responded.

Y/N had been given the job of getting beers for the group as they were staying at the Chateau that evening again. He headed to Geechie's to procure them, and received weird looks as he entered.

He picked up 2 cases and brought them to the cashier. "36 dollars." Y/N looked up at him incredulously. "36?! It's 18."

The cashier sneered at him. "Double for you." Y/N clenched his jaw, and dug into his pocket to try and find more money.

"There you go." He heard a voice beside him, as she put down the money for him.

He looked to his left and saw Sarah. "Hey." She began. He gave her a tight lipped smile back. "Hey." He had been informed of her decision to break up with John B, and given how they had been behaving towards each other recently, he wasn't surprised.

He grabbed his cases, and left the shop with her. "What're you doing here?" He asked her, as they stopped on the dock outside the store. "I saw you come in... I wanted to talk." She said, looking down.

They stayed silent for a moment, before he spoke up. "I'm not gonna ask how you're feeling, 'cause I know what it's like." She looked up at him now, and moved to hug him. He hugged her back as he felt some tears stain his chest. "Why don't you feel how John B does?"

"He wasn't my favourite person by any means, but you mean more to me as a friend than how I feel about him." He responded, as she pulled away.

"Thank you."

He smiled down at her. "No problem." He started to turn away, but she gently held onto his arm. "How.." He turned back to her. "How did you get over it?" She asked him.

He stood in front of her, and looked down. "If I'm honest... I haven't." He began, as he faced her now. "Pain like that doesn't just leave, it'll probably always be there. But.. it gets to a point where you only focus on the good, and you rise above the grief."

She contemplated his words for a minute, finding solace in them. "How did... how did it happen?"

Y/N hadn't told anyone in OBX how exactly he had lost his father. Not John B, JJ, Pope, Rebecca... not even Kiara. He took a breath before speaking. "Humans... they went mutant hunting one day... he tried to help the ones they were looking for and... got caught in the crossfire."
