Y/N had been shocked by very few things in his life. Finding out he was a mutant. Finding out his dad had passed away. His friends' reaction to him coming out to them...
But he had never been as shocked as he was now.
"What?" He asked Kiara breathlessly. She still couldn't bring herself to look up at him. "I-I...I think we should break up."
Y/N could quite literally hear his heart shatter. His girlfriend, his love, was now saying she didn't want to be with him anymore.
"W...why?" He breathed out. Kiara still didn't look up. "It's... it's just too much right now.. Y/N." She responded quietly.
He reached out for her hand, but she didn't let him take it. "We... we can work on this. Kie, look, I'm sorry f-for whatever I've done. But... but please you don't have to do this." He desperately tried to get her to reconsider, but she didn't seem like she'd be convinced.
"I...I can't be your girlfriend, and care about you the way I.. did." She wanted to say 'do', but didn't want to give him unnecessary hope that they could work. "I can't do that and watch you do these things to yourself." She said, finally meeting his eyes, seeing the heartbreak clear as day in them.
"Kie, please. I'm sorry. I'll be more careful. I-I'll think things through more. I'll stop hurting you just... please don't do this."
She looked away from him again. "I might be getting sent away, Y/N." She began, making him even more confused. "And between that and everything that's happened I just... I can't do this anymore." Their tears were now streaming down their faces, as they couldn't keep their emotions in anymore.
"Kie..." He began. "I'm sorry, Y/N." She said, wiping her tears away as she walked back towards the others.
Y/N wanted the ground to just swallow him up right now. He couldn't focus on their mission with this going on right now.
"Nice work, John B. You know these things lock from the outside, right?" He heard JJ reprimanding their friend. "Okay, I was just trying to get us on the boat, JJ. I wasn't thinking that far ahead. Whoa. What's up?" Kiara had evidently made her way back to them, confusing them about her sad expression and blotchy cheeks.
"Nothing." She spoke quickly and quietly to them, sitting next to Rebecca, who immediately looked down at her best friend, very concerned. Kiara looked over at her, and the youngest Carrera's expression told Rebecca all that she needed to know. She, of course, had listened to Kiara's worries about Y/N recently.
"Well, now we're stuck in here like rats." JJ continued. "It's hot." Rebecca said, removing her jacket. "In this death cage." JJ continued.
"Okay, JJ, you're not helping." Pope said, as Y/N rejoined them. It was as if the temperature in the room dropped about 20 degrees from his expression alone. He jumped up and sat next to John B. Everyone, bar Kiara, looked between each other, taking a good guess at what their conversation was about.
JJ turned back to Pope. "You don't have a lot of room to talk right now. You said you had a plan, but what happened to thinking ahead?" He asked.
"I find your lack of self-knowledge disturbing."
JJ laughed at his response. "Last I checked, you literally shot an oil container with the gat."
"Oh my God. Shut up!" Y/N and Kiara spoke up at the same time, glancing at each other, before Y/N looked away again. "Pull it together." Kiara told them.
"Okay, let's try find a way out of here." Pope said.
After one quick sweep, they didn't find anything, and sat back down in the sweatbox. "Hey, Pope. How do you kill a snake?" JJ asked.
