''Welcome to the Yang Slither Pits Final!'' The announcer's voice rang out, catching everyone's attention. ''In the left corner, Kai, the Flaming Shogun!'' The crowd cheered as Kai did his usual move, showing off his muscles.
''And in the right corner, we have Kruncha!'' The announcer continued. The crowd cheered again, watching Kruncha's bony head being spun around by his companion, leaving him dizzy. Kai mentally scoffed, he didn't think this would be much of a challenge.
The bell dinged, and his opponent slowly made his way over. Yet before he got even close, Kai jumped forward, saying the usual ''ninja, go!'', as he did a flawless spinjitzu. Bones flew around, and he came to a stop.
''Didn't your mama ever warn you not to play with me?'' He scoffed.
''No.'' The mess of bones replied dryly. Out of the corner of his eye, Kai could see the announcer making his way over as the bell dinged again.
''Victor of the Slither Pit, and undefeated champion.'' Kai's arm was raised. ''Kai, the Flaming Shogun!'' The crowd clapped and cheered, yet he turned away.
''The Red Shogun.'' He corrected the snake as he stalked away, kicking Kruncha's head on his way. ''Red shogun!'' He repeated, ignoring the annoyed 'hey!' from the bony creature. He faintly heard the two pile of bones argue behind him, but paid it no attention as he slurped from his drink.
''You shouldn't drink too much juice.'' A voice he knew all too well said from somewhere around him; Lloyd. He looked around frantically, searching for the source. ''It's filled with more sugar than you realize.'' He continued, and Kai now spotted him next to him.
''Oh, it's you.'' He sighed, taking another sip.
''The team needs you now more than ever.'' The blond said, to which Kai scoffed.
''Who says the great and powerful Green Ninja needs a team?'' He replied bitterly, returning his focus to his drink. ''You seem to be holding down the fort on your own.''
''I get it, Kai. You ran out of bad guys to fight out there, you've got to come to a place like this.'' He pointed around. ''But where is the honor in that? Where's the Master of Fire?''
Kai couldn't help but retort; ''It's the Red Shogun now. And where's the Master of Ice, huh? He's gone, but I'm still here. Who cares about honor? It should have been me. I should've been the one-''
He got interrupted however, as Lloyd snapped at him; ''You always thought you should've been the one. First it was being the Green Ninja, now this. When are you gonna start thinking of someone other than yourself?''
Those words hurt, he had to admit, and he was about to turn to the blond again when he realized he was gone. The only thing he heard were the following words:
''If you change your mind, you know where I'll be.''

[Short chapter, I know, but this one is really just to get into it. In reality I did this chapter and the next together, but that ended up being too long so I split them. I actually have this whole book written so updates will come consistently. Unless I forget to update of course.
Anyway, thanks for reading!
