the air is chilly and invigorating, carrying a hint of winter's touch. each breath creates a delicate mist, floating in the stillness of the night. the coldness on your skin reminds you of the vastness of the universe, contrasting with the warmth that resides within.

silence blankets the earth, allowing the symphony of the night sky to take center stage.
away from the hustle and bustle of the day, the serenity of the cold starlit night encourages introspection and contemplation. it invites you to gaze upward, to ponder the mysteries of the universe and your place within it.
you feel happy here.
even more so with the girl next to you.

"look, over there. thats the pleiades star cluster. its super famous, its in the constellation of taurus. its like, 100 million years old and im not even kidding."
you say, pointing at the cluster of stars glittering brightly from the distance.

roseanne hums, as the cold night air sweeps past the two of you.
"that's really nice y/n."

you had met roseanne recently as the two of you met from this astronomy programme your school offered during something they did called sabbatical week.
it was basically a week were the school offered programmes and workshops to help broaden the minds of students in different ways.

"why'd you sign up for this program? there were like, a bunch others." roseanne asked curiously, reaching out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ears.
"oh. i just think its cool 'cuz it kinda reminds me where i stand in the grand scheme of things. the universe is so huge. i just like to think about how we got here and whats out there. the stars remind me that theres always something much bigger, y'know?"

roseanne bobs her head.
"wow...me too."
"really?"
"nah. i just think the moons really pretty."

"urgh. we have to go for lectures too? i just thought they'd let us borrow the telescopes and stuff."

you tilt your head at her.
"i mean yeah. they're gonna tell us about stellar evolution and stuff. didn't you read the sign up sheet?"

she didn't.

"uhhhh- no. also i suck at science."

you smile.
"oh. well they did say anyone can go so it shouldn't be that hard. you might find it interesting."

anyways, you were wrong, roseanne didn't understand a thing.

"the heck's a neutron star? what is he talking about???" she whispered.
you snatch the pen shes been trying to balance on her upper lip for the past 3 minutes.
"chaeyoungie, he just said."

she tilted her head back, groaning.
"oh my god. im just so bored. this is just extra school."
you laugh a little at her antics, grab her hand and pull her back into a proper sitting position.
"sit still." you scold, or at least you try to.
you tilt your head down, laughing silently. you glance up at her, she's pouting.
"you're so cute, rosé." you whisper-laugh, just loud enough for her to catch.
roseanne grins triumphantly. that almost made the whole thing worth it.

the days seemed to past, way too quickly. before you knew it, the week was over. but you had found a new friend in roseanne.

you texted often, you even stayed up just to talk to her. sometimes she would call you and you would hide under your blanket and listen to her rant for hours on end. roseannes accent was lovely.

sometimes, if you were lucky she would grab her trusty ukulele and sing whatever new song she had come up with recently.

her voice was soothing, like honey cough syrup. you've always sort of liked the taste cough syrup.

sometimes, she would send you one of the songs she's been obsessing over lately. usually some niche artist you've never heard about and would have never heard about if it weren't for her.

and in turn you would send her random memes you've seen on the internet and would cause her to grin like a mad woman in class. also, roseanne was the only who would always listen to your crazy space theories.

you smiled internally at the thought of her, your brain always jumped when you heard her name.
you always has an urge to grab her shoulders and tell her how awesome she is. you wished you could that.

maybe your thoughts had summoned her because you saw her in the distance. running towards you, her blonde hair streaking out in the wind, her bag bouncing around her as she ran.

"y/n!!" she shrieked hysterically.
she jumped up and down laughing maniacally.

"wha- what is it?" you asked, getting semi- excited yourself.

she's panting now, the words she gets out are just barely audible.
"he said yes!"

"huh?"
you furrowed your brows. whose he?

roseannes eyes widened. then she slapped herself, laughing.
"ah! i forgot to tell you!"

"tell me what??"

"i asked chanyeol to be my boyfriend!"

her eyes are shining, waiting expectantly for your reply.

chanyeol. in your opinion, was a big fat bastard, but you decided to keep that to yourself for the time being.

"he said-" the gears weren't turning. roseanne? a beautiful soul and chanyeol the biggest twat to grace the earth since he popped out of his unfortunate mothers womb.
"so you're-" you blinked. it clicked. "oh.."

your heart dropped and broke at your feet.
roseanne beamed.
"yeah! i'm so happy y/n!"
with those words roseanne had ground the shards of your heart into the pavement below.

you felt like a horrid person. how could you ever be so selfish? roseanne deserved to be happy. chanyeol could make her happy. in the long run, you wouldn't be enough for her.
if roseanne was a star in space then what were you? probably just a quark.
