The dawn burned bright as the guards stirred waiting to be relieved of duty for the day. Everyone else in the prison waited with bated breath for the changing of the guards too. The plan was, when the new guards replaced the old ones they always went on their rounds, so when they left this hallway everyone would run out. The way I figured it I could escape quite easily camouflaged in a crowd. Then the moment came, the old guards left and the new ones began their rounds. "NOW!!" I cried. Every cell door in the hallway (23 to be exact) burst open and it was a free for all! Everyone scrambled for the stairwell. I looked back at the professor, "You sure you're not coming?" I asked. "Yes child, I could never run fast enough now, but go! You are wasting daylight!" He was right I had to go. It was now or never. "Thank you for everything!" I called over my shoulder as I bolted passed the flummoxed guards on my way to freedom!

As I ran through the mazes of halls I began to doubt that I would ever escape. It seemed that every tunnel I ran down had 3 more halls going off in every possible direction. I finally found one that seemed to go straight up. I knew I was nearing the top when I heard shouts of "Damn! How did they escape? Is the girl gone? Don't just stand there, Find her!" "Geeze! Don't they even use my name?" I muttered to myself as I pushed a trap door on the ceiling open and climbed out into the daylight above. Instantly I was spotted by none other than Robin. A warm feeling of happiness filled me as I saw him, I instantly hated myself for it. I began to run as they swarmed after me, Robin in the lead. I ducked through archways, and around carts, and flags. I pulled a table of weapons out behind me to gain some time. I picked up a knife before I took off again. "Come back, Wench!" I heard voices behind me yell. I ignored them as I picked up speed. Suddenly I came face to face with a steep drop off. I stopped barely in time before I fell off. I turned around to run back the way I came, but a group of them were already around me. I backed up to the edge of the drop off and looked down. If I could just get down about 10 feet I could slide the rest of the way. I spotted a flagpole about 3 feet below me and a plan started to form in my mind. "Well Hero," a man's voice said calling me out of my thoughts. "looks like we have come to the end of our little game." Robin said as his friends broke into malicious laughter. "I must say that was clever the way you handled that. Too bad it didn't work." Was that genuine admiration in his voice? I couldn't tell. "Did the rest get away?" I asked. "Yes, most of them." He answered. "Did Jimmy?" I asked. "Oh you mean the little street thief? Yah he got away." "Good." I breathed. "Oh, Is he your boyfriend? Oh kissy, kissy! I WOVE JIMMY!" Robin said in a baby voice. I could feel my blood boil as I watched him make fun of me. "I have never had a boyfriend, nor do I have a desire for one. I hope you don't have a want for a girlfriend because the only way you will ever get one is if she is not only blind, and def but stupid!" I snapped at him. That stopped him. For some reason that one had hit hard. He looked at me with a hurt wistful expression, but it left so quickly I wasn't sure it had even been there. I suddenly felt sorry for what I had said. "Well Hero, what are you going to do now?" he said with mockery in his voice. I knew if I was going to act it would have to be now. "Something daring!" I said and jumped off the side and grabbed the flagpole. I pulled out my knife and cut a slit in the middle of the flag and along the top of one side of the slit. I then grabbed the side that was no longer attached to the pole and the fabric ripped down about 10 feet. The 10 feet I needed! I then jumped down and slid the rest of the way to the ground. What little my ankle had healed was now ruined from my run and slide. I heard shouts in the distance as I began to run again. I knew with my ankle I would never be able to outrun them so I decided to hide. I found a small cave made out of dirt and sand and I slid headfirst into it and blocked the opening with dead leaves. I heard the attackers right outside. One of them growled, "She can't have come this far." "Nahh she probably doesn't even know Moonacre is this way. Lett's turn north." I breathed a sigh of relief as I heard their footsteps growing fainter in the distance. I came out of hiding and continued the way I was going. I ran as best I could, now confident I was heading in the right direction. I didn't know it but a piece of my dress had ripped off on a branch. After a long while had passed I was now positive I was lost. When I had come to the De Noir's it was mostly uphill so I had a right to assume that I should be going downhill. Even if I was going a different way I still should be going downhill. Moonacre is in an almost bowl shape valley, below sea level. I was heading uphill again. I sat down dejectedly and started to feel tears prick my eyes.
