Chapter 9

Robin's perspective.

We had cornered her. It was a wall on either side, a drop-off, or a wall of us. There was no other way out. I watched her back up to the edge and look down. "Well Hero, looks like we have come to the end of our little game." I told her with a smirk. My friends laughed. "I must say it was a clever way you handled that. Too bad it didn't work." I honestly must say I thought her plan was smart. She had brains, I'd give her that. But then again, so did Maria. "Did the rest get away?" she asked. "Yes, most of them." I answered. "Did Jimmy?" she asked concerned. For some reason the concern in her voice made me hate Jimmy, but I merely said, "Oh you mean the little street thief? Yah, he got away." "Good." She breathed relieved. That made my blood boil more, so much so that I decided to pick on her. "Oh, is he your boyfriend? Oh kissy, kissy! I WOVE JIMMY!!" I said in a baby-is voice. When I heard her response I wished I hadn't picked on her. "I have never had a boyfriend, nor do I have a desire for one. I hope you don't have a want for a girlfriend because the only way you will ever get one is if she is not only blind, and def but stupid!" she snapped at me. That hurt. I looked up into her face trying to see if she actually thought that of me. I quickly pushed that thought out of my mind as I asked, "Well Hero, what are you going to do now?" "Something daring!" She smiled at me as she jumped off the cliff. My heart was pounding in my chest as I ran to the edge and looked down. Was she dead? A feeling of relief swept over me as I saw she had grabbed onto the flagpole. Then I heard my father's voice yelling behind me. "What the devil are you doing? Where's the girl?" I took a shaky breath and stepped forward, "She escaped." I said. "SHE WHAT!!!" he cried his furious eyes boring into mine. "Listen everyone!" he yelled so even the dead in their graves could here. "I want her killed! I want that map with or without the owner's consent! We will seek her out and kill her, then go to Moonacre and search the house. It must be there somewhere. Go! I want her blood by tonight!" I suddenly knew I had to save her. I couldn't let her die. While everyone went to get gear and horses I ran for the gate. Mike and Ki followed me, I would get rid of them later. I got to the spot where she slid and began to search the ground for any disturbance in the foliage. I found the direction and started running. Suddenly two men on horseback passed us, I could barely contain the "NO" that so desperately wanted to escape my lips. I had started to think they would find her first, when the riders came riding back. "Any sign?" I asked, attempting to sound like I was eager to kill her. "No" they informed me. "She couldn't have come this far. We are going north, you should follow us." "I think I will keep going this way, just in case." I told them "Sute yourself." One of them said riding away. "You should go with them." I told Mike and Ki. They began running after the riders, as I picked up the trail again. The trail wound in and out of trees until it ducked into a small whole in the ground. I approached the entrance and looked inside. I saw that some leaves had been disturbed. She had hid here, probably from the rider's. I crouched and began to search along the ground, I noticed she had started to go in a couple different directions, decoys most likely. She was smart. I soon found the real trail and began tracking her again. I thought I had lost it until I saw a piece of purple fabric, the same color as her dress. I pulled it off the branch and put it in my pocket. I wasn't sure why, but I wanted to keep it. I followed the trail for about 20 more minutes until I heard soft crying. My heart leaped in my chest, I had found her! I watched her for a second, even though she was crying her beauty pulled at my heart. Then I remembered why she was crying. I slipped out of hiding and crept up to her....
