Bon was at the library with Koneko waiting for Rin. He knew something was up with Rin. He wasn't acting like his normal dumb ass self. He had stopped sleeping in class. Instead of charging forward, he has been staying back on missions. “Damm it, where is he?” Bon huffed. “He should have been here by now.” “Do you want to go look for him?” Koneko asked. “Yeah.” Bon replied “He’s probably at his dorm, let's go.”

They reached the run down building and headed upstairs. Bon knocked and yelled through the door at the same time. “Rin, you in there!” Rin opened the door a moment later “I’m here, what's up?” Bon scowled “you were supposed to meet up with us, did you forget?” Rin sighed “no, something came up. Please, just come in.” When they entered the room they noticed the state Rin was in. His clothes were dirty and disheveled. His hair had sticks and dirt in it. He looked like he had just gotten out of a fight. Koneko was the first to say “What happened to you?” Rin ignored the question and smiled “do you guys still want to study?” “ok that's it!” Bon exclaimed “since when do you care about school work?  Forget that you're a total mess right now, You’ve been holding back for a while. Were friends man, what's up?”

“I’ve just got a lot on my mind,” Rin replied. Bon was about to say something back when Koneko interrupted “Something is wrong with your sword, isn’t it? I’ve noticed you haven’t used it or your flames in a while.” Rin took a step back and looked away. “Rin, what is he talking about?” Bon asked. When Rin looked back at his friends he had a sad smile and a faraway look in his eyes “Thanks for being my friends guys. It means more to me than you know.”Rin reached over his shoulder and grabbed his sword. Koneko on instinct took a step back. “What's going on Rin? Bon asked. “Everything is going to change soon.” Rin replied, pulling the sword from its sheath . Flames came to life around him. In a few moments settling around the blade. “The seal on my flames won’t last much longer. Just look.” The two took in all the damage to the blade. They were shocked. It looked like shattered glass. Rin sheathed his sword, and continued “My flames are getting stronger and easier to control. Mephisto sealed away more than just my flames. He sealed my demonic nature, to make me as humane as possible. With each break in the seal I feel less human. But in a good way. Like I’ve been handicapped and I’m finally getting to run.”

Why haven’t you said anything, damm it?” Bon asked. “Maybe I should have but that doesn't matter, just listen” “Of course it matters, Rin!” Bon said. “Bon, Let him finish.” Koneko added. Rin spoke firmly “I passed my exorcist exam. They made me an exorcist. I thought that was something I wanted. My mother believed that humans and demons could coexist. Yokio and I were going to be proof of that. The Vatican burned her alive! They could not see past their fear, and hatred of demons to see the future she did. Satan saved her from the flames that night. We lived, but my mother died. My old man was supposed to kill me and my brother. Shiro showed me love insead. My mothers dream didn’t completely die that night.

“Wait, Rin are you talking about the blue night? Bon asked “Haven’t you ever wondered why Satan attacked that night?” Rin replied "everyone has secrets. I've had to learn that the hard way. I have every reason to be angry, but I’m not. There has to be a better way than humans and demons trying to kill each other.” Bon was silent for a moment before he spoke “My temple, Konekos family. You might not be angry but I am. What does all that have to do with your sword?” “Everything!” Rin explained “Being angry is easier than forgiveness. And just because you forgive, doesn't mean you forget. For someone like me, anger will only lead to fire and ash. Even if The True Cross decides they want to kill me, I will not hate them. But I’m not going to sit back and let them kill me either. I let them hang me up and bleed me once, I won’t let that happen again. For now just watch your backs, ok guys.” “Alright Rin, I don’t know if it's possible for humans and demons to get along but it's worth a try.” Rin sighed, “Do you ever think people are better off just not knowing about demons? Living a simple life.” “Sometimes I think those people are lucky.” Koneko said.
