School was finally over for the day. Rin had stopped sleeping in class a while ago. He just had too much energy. Which was great, because now he had significantly less homework. He had even managed to bring his grades up quite a bit. He was on his way to the library to meet up with his friends Bon and Koneko to study. As much as he hated to study, it kept his mind busy and away from darker thoughts. About halfway there he began to feel like he was being watched. Someone was always watching these days but this felt different. It was dangerous. The hairs on his neck stood on end. He kept walking but was hyper aware of all the sounds around him. In the distance he could hear birds singing. A bee buzzed by. There was a slight scrape of gravel. When he turned the next corner, he picked up a scent that he recognized immediately. Amiamon,  demon king of earth. He was always sneaking up on him. It's like a game at this point.

In the blink of an eye Amiamon charged. Instinct took over. Rin moved without thinking. He whipped around and caught Amiamon by the throat. Slamming him into the concrete. The booming impact cracking the ground underneath him. Amiamon choked and coughed up blood as the air was forced from his lungs. Rin still held him by his throat. He let some of his flames loose. Locking eyes with Amiamon, a wicked smile came across Rins face. Amiamon froze, terror reaching his very core. Rins power hit him in a powerful wave. Almost forcing him from his vessel. It was like all of Gehenna filled his being at once. Life death fire water pain loss light dark hope rebirth power absolute. Everything he could ever want was right in front of him. He would deny this being nothing.

Rin pulled back his flames and laughed “Ha! I finally got you!” At some point his tail had come out from under his shirt and was waving like a happy dog behind him. Amiamon came back to himself at the insult. In an instance, he reversed their positions so he was holding Rin by the throat, capturing his tail and letting loose a low growl. Rin growled back, pulling on the hand around his neck “What do you want, Amiamon?” “You really don’t know anything about demons, do you?” “Screw you, get off me!” Amiamon yanked Rins tail hard. Rin screamed as flames poured from him. The sheer magnitude of the blast threw Amiamon into the nearest wall. Crushing many of his bones. From his sword a small tink was heard and felt. Rin was pissed. He stood and walked over to Amiamon. “Of course I don’t know anything about demons! My whole life was a lie. I’m sure some of it still is. And you know that! So don’t be a dick about it! Just leave me alone.”

Amiamon, having mostly healed, got to his feet. He needed a minute to think. How was Rin this powerful? He had tasted Rins flames before, they were nothing like this. It had always bothered him that Rin was kept ignorant of his heritage. In all his raw power, he should be wild, and untamed. Samule assured him that it was necessary and now he’s supposed to teach the undisciplined brat. He spoke carefully “I have been given a task, you need to listen to me.” Rin looked around, other students had begun to gather to see what was happening. Some even had their phones out. He didn’t need more trouble. The words from his dream came to his mind “unite the Ba’al.” Amiamon being here wasn’t random. “Fine you want to talk, we’ll talk. But not here. Can you take us to my dorm?”

Amiamon snapped his finger and instantly they were standing in front of his dorm. “My room is upstairs, let's go.” Rin turned and headed into the building. Amiamon followed silently. Rin let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding when he reached his room. It felt like a snake ready to attack with Amiamon behind him. His room was simple, a bed, desk, chair, and a wardrobe. Growing up in a church he learned it was ok to go without. He didn’t need much. Amiamon stalked into the room and sat himself on Rins desk. He was not impressed with what he saw. Rin was the heir to Gehennas throne. He should not be living in such a dismal place. Amiamon would fix that, a prince deserved finer things.

Rins voice pulled him from his thoughts “ok were here, what task are you talking about?” Amiamons face was expressionless as he spoke “You are painfully unaware of your demonic heritage. You have no manners or discipline. And you lack any form of proper training. I will teach you.” Rin was suspicious “Why would you help me? Did Mephisto put you up to this?” Amiamons eyes narrowed “he did, but I also have my own reasons.” “And like everyone else, I doubt you plan on sharing that reason.” Amiamon didn’t respond so Rin continued “Frankly I’m tired of trying to do this shit on my own. It's been a year and a half since I found out I am a Demon and no one has really taught me anything about demons. The cram school is a joke. The only thing I have learned there is how to kill demons and what plants to avoid. I’d like to learn more about Gehhna itself. Maphisto no fucking help. I swear the bastard enjoys watching me struggle.”

“He really has no manners.”Amiamon thought as got off the desk and came toward Rin. Stopping only when their faces were inches apart. “Lesson one: Respect those older and stronger than you.You bare your fangs and growl without thinking about it. I’ve seen you do it many times to Samuel. He’s killed for less.” Rin took a step back, thinking of all the times he had threatened Mephisto. Then he smiled “yeah, he could kill me if he wanted to.” By looking at Amiamons face he could tell that was the wrong answer. So he quickly added “lesson one, got it. Quit aching like a jerk before I get my ass kicked.” “Good.” Amiamon stated, “Come to Samules office in the morning. I will teach you how to be a proper demon, you were meant to be a prince. Gehenna's call will only get stronger.” Amiamon turned his head towards the door. “Your humans are coming” In a solid, quick motion, he exited out the window. Rin was left standing alone in his room, mind spinning with unanswered questions.
