The sun was barely up when Y/N, Amy, Eva, Jake, and Vic gathered in the living room, all of them staring blankly at each other, the weight of boredom heavy in the air.
"All right," Hartley announced with a dramatic sigh, stepping forward with a hopeful grin. "It's Saturday. I have a lot of nothing planned for today, so let's get to it! Anybody want to suggest something fun?"
Y/N rubbed her temples. "A lot of nothing? Seriously?"
Hartley perked up. "But look! Check out the community calendar." She pulled out her phone, scrolling through the day's events. "There's a car show, a line-dancing contest, and—wait for it—a pie festival!"
Jake raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Ooh, a pie festival? Sounds like the perfect way to start a food fight. Or hey, how about we hit the line-dancing contest? Might be fun to see who can step on toes first."
Vic jumped in, his voice eager. "Yeah! Let's take a joyride to the contest and start a pie fight. That's a father-son day right there, Jake."
Jake frowned, shaking his head. "Or, we could do something that doesn't ruin other people's good time. You're taking a lot off the table."
At that moment, an annoying buzzing filled the room.
"Great," Y/N muttered, swatting at the air. "A fly got in. I guess this is my entertainment for the day."
The buzzing grew louder, circling around their heads. Then, a familiar voice squeaked, "Amy, stop! It's me, Colby!"
Everyone froze, eyes widening.
Y/N squinted. "Colby? You're a fly?"
Colby's tiny wings flapped frantically. "Yeah, I shape-shifted into a fly and I've been stuck this way ever since. So, you know, I'm still gross, but now I have wings."
Amy backed up, shaking her head. "Wait, you're a fly now? Then why have I been talking to this oven mitt all morning?"
Vic shrugged. "We just thought you were losing it. And I'm nice now, so I didn't want to say anything."
At that moment, the front door creaked open and Eva walked in, looking unusually sharp and businesslike in a neat blouse and slacks.
"Morning!" she called, a determined smile on her face.
Y/N looked her up and down. "Hey, Eva, what are you all dressed up for?"
Eva lifted her chin proudly. "I'm going to the community job fair at your school. Mama's gonna join the workforce!"
Y/N blinked. "Why do you want a job? I mean, I get the money part, but don't they make you work, too?"
Eva sighed. "Everyone in the family has found a place in this new life except me. You all go to school, your father's a substitute teacher... I used to be third in command of all villains, and now I spend my day building castles out of tortilla chips."
She chuckled dryly. "Spoiler alert: The drawbridge is my mouth."
Amy smiled warmly. "Good for you getting a job. Bad for whoever you work for, but good for you!"
Eva gave her a mock glare. "Glad you feel that way, because you're both coming with me."
"Wait, what? For moral support?" Y/N asked suspiciously.
"Nope," Eva said with a smirk. "To show me where your silly little school is."
Before they could answer, a sudden buzzing interrupted the conversation.
"Is that a fly?" Y/N asked, spotting the tiny blur darting by.
Electricity crackled as Vic lunged forward, yelling, "I'll get him!"
