The cafeteria was buzzing with the usual chaos—clattering trays, shouts from across tables, and Hartley scolding someone for cutting in the pizza line. But at the far corner, Amy sat hunched over her phone, chewing her lip nervously.
Y/N slid into the seat across from her, eyebrows furrowed. "Amy, what's wrong? I just got your text saying 'Help' in all caps."
Amy's head snapped up. Her voice was low and rushed. "Oh, I'm gonna need you to run back home and grab my math homework. And Hartley," she turned, pointing across the table, "I'm gonna need you to do my math homework."
Hartley didn't even look up from her orange slices. "I am not doing your math homework."
Amy grinned, leaning back smugly. "I figured she'd say that, which is why I already wrote my name on hers."
Both Amy and Colby snickered. Hartley froze mid-bite. "Hey!" she said, her face twisting in betrayal.
Before Hartley could unleash her lecture, a familiar sharp voice sliced through the noise.
"Out of my way, Mini-Madden."
Gem shoved her tray onto the edge of the table, glaring at Colby.
Colby sat up straighter, giving her his best unimpressed look. "Gem, I'm taller than you."
Gem scoffed, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "Well, I'm not updating my burns just because you had a growth spurt."
Amy's chair screeched against the floor as she stood up, fists balled at her sides. "Hey! No one talks to my brother like that except me... and my other brother... and my mom, and my dad. Okay, a lot of people do, but not you."
Gem's smirk widened like she'd been waiting for this moment all morning. "Fine. I don't need to talk about him when I can talk about you."
Everyone at the table went still.
Gem raised her voice dramatically, drawing a few curious glances from nearby students. "Attention, everyone. I've got some very exciting news. As you all know, I recently started my own online gossip channel."
Colby rolled his eyes. "Yeah, we know, and we don't care."
"Well," Gem drawled, leaning closer, "you're gonna care. Because during tonight's livestream, I'm gonna drop the biggest bomb yet. And it's all about you."
Amy's face drained of color. "Did she just touch me? She touched me. Hartley, she touched me!"
Hartley shoved her hands into her hoodie pocket. "Focus, Amy."
Gem crossed her arms, eyes glittering with satisfaction. "You see, Amy's been keeping a juicy secret from everyone. And her perfect friend Hartley has been covering for her. But tonight? I'm gonna share video evidence that'll expose everything and take them both down. Hope you're ready, 'cause once word gets out... your lives will never be the same."
She slung her backpack over her shoulder, smiling like she'd already won. "Have a great day! Bye!"
The table was silent until she was gone.
Amy dropped into her chair, groaning. "You don't actually think... Gem knows I'm Havoc."
Colby's eyes darted between the others. "I don't get it. What evidence could Gem have that we're villains?"
Hartley raised an eyebrow. "Well, you do use your powers to get whatever you want, whenever you want, so that might have something to do with it."
Amy whipped her head toward her. "Hartley, this is no time for the blame game!"
